Prob gonna have to hit it, Don't you have to there like at 5am or something close? And hike up?

funkymonkey1111

you can drive up as far as devil's playground--that's 12,780. i don't know if you can hike up farther than that

the gates open at 4:00am. There's a guide on their website that gives cutoff times for areas of the course.

Have a few friends running in the various motorcycle classes, but I am unable to attend the race this year.

I went last year and it was definitely worth it. I am staying home this year.

My red/white/blue RX-8 is running in it with Bill Caswell driving. I may be able to upload some video from practice later.

I can't make it this year (again), but I really like watching the videos more than I think I would enjoy watching one corner all day. That being said, I hope to go next year and camp out.

This will be my first year missing the race since 06, 08-11 as a competitor. Best place to watch IMO is devils playground. Be at the there by 4 am if you want to be guaranteed to get up there. Bring warm clothes at it will be very cold in the morning, food and drinks for the whole day.

I am racing it this year, it Will be my first time. Now that it is fully paved they are allowing true sportbikes to race. That being said they put us in a class that has mainly 4 wheel vehicles and charged us double the entry fee for the other bike classes.
We had qualifying yesterday and I got third 3rd with a 4:55.
I am 38 seconds off the fastest bike which seems like a lot but being it's my first year and the Ducati guys have years of experience, I am really happy. Greg Tracy told me this was his 16 year! I am racing a gsxr 600..
Tomorrow should be fun!

Any guesses on the overall winner's time?

Think they'll break 9 minutes now that it's all paved?

Can't wait to drive up there myself... How is the pavement all the way up?

I'm not sure about breaking 9 minutes, I have not paid that much attention to the car times. The road is very good overall and actually better then some tracks I have raced on.

The road is very good. Last week they were running the street sweepers to take care of the marbles that were in a few places. I still miss the dirt. Even though I do know the road pretty well there are still a couple of places that I get mixed up at.

I think if I were to run the pavement single I would want a recording going on in a set of phones akin to a rally co-pilot. There are a few blind places that one can make great time on.

I crewed on a 14 time champ bike 1999-2005.

Very cool video and amazing skills. I've seen a lot of wannabes "riding" their Subaru race cars up the canyon from Boulder to Nederland that pretend to drive like this.

For all of you that are going to this have fun and wish i could go [Beer]

Are you guys running a three rotor? Turbo?

I had a winning blue 04 RX8, miss that car sometimes

Bill decided to withdraw from the race for his own reasons. I did not agree with it but understand his reasons. I wondered what happened. Was listening to the radio and watching live scoring and when they had one of the many red flags I looked and he was not there.

I thought that he may have been one of the ones that went off course. I did like the dig the Rhys Millen got in on Phil Layton.[Beer]

Mr Layton used to work where I do and I also support the "other" building on top of the peak. years ago he wanted to use the building for the race and I told him no. He had someone break into it and that started a shitstorm between some people and Govt types.

Like they say there is always next year and by what I was hearing the road became a mess. I know your not happy but the car is in one piece.[Flower]

That's insane and a very long day given the public upflow times to The Cove... Regardless, hope you enjoyed. (FWIW, my avatar is me on skis just above Glen Cove.)

Seems between the freakin' pavement for the enviro-nazis and the safety-nazis involved they're doing everything possible to kill the "second oldest auto race in the U.S." (and yep, that claim is debatable).

So what was the hold up keeping the "citizens" confined? 1950L release from Glen Cove seems ridiculous... Guessing from your location, but a 0500-2130 day isn't conducive to support this event in the future.

Truly understand the fire-delay, truly sorry that young girl got hit during practice but they've made this event almost too painful to endure as a spectator. [Mad]

There were 8 red flags, two helicopter evacuations (one car down the side of the mountain that looked to be 200 yards down from my vantage--maybe it was less), snow on the summit, and for only the third time they shortened the course mid-race because of the snow. The last 15 cars only raced to glen cove

Hadn't realized they had that bad of day on the mountain... Glad all are OK and sounds like the little girl hit during practice is OK.

Dallenbach's crash was plain scary and could've been a disaster.

Been years since I've been back (Dad ran the PPHC in the early 60s and been a few other times).

Any thoughts on paved to the top? I'm sure speeds/acceleration are much improved but it's way less forgiving.

When I was a kid in California a car came up for sale that my friend ended up buying. It was a 1971 Formula 400 firebird...I think..haha. I know it had a 400 ci motor. It had a little plate on the dash board that said Pikes Peak 1971 1st place. At that time none of us even knew what or where Pikes Peak was. Wonder if that was for real and what class it would have been in? Bought the car for 3,500 dollars.

We being stupid kids got in it to drive the 30 miles back to where Mike lived. I think the speedo went to 140 and we buried it on the way home after being in this used car for about 20 minutes. Were all lucky to be alive.

Also fastest car I've ever been in belongs to a guy named Cameron out in Larkspur. Bright Yellow 900 hp Vet. Top speed was something like 204 mph. We didn't go nearly that fast.
If I were in the passenger seat of the car in the video posted my ass would have eaten a hole clear through the floor board. That would be one scary ride.
