Anybody checked these out? I decided to spring for one. I'm in the process of putting together a top-dog affordable AR on a Spikes painted Zombie lower. Got the email from Aim today- they are selling these middy uppers complete with the superb FN 249 barrel and a complete Spikes Nickel boron coated bolt!! $629 delivered!! Seems like a screaming deal to me.

Damn I was waiting for one of those. Since they weren't available for so long I went ahead and orderd BCM 16" Midlength gas, BCM BCG and a Mod 4 Gun Fighter.. Maybe i'll order the Spikes and see which one I like better.

Thanks for the heads up

Given that the price for the bolt/carrier alone is $275, and Noveske is using the same barrels, I thought this was a good deal!

It's been about 2 weeks, any field reports on this upper design?

Not yet for me. I have to get a rear sight and then i'll hit the range. So...possibly within the next two weeks.

From what I can tell; this upper seems to shoot well. No failures during about 400 rounds I managed to squeeze off during a Project Appleseed shoot. Only issue I had was user induced problems with stripping off a round using the charging handle versus just letting the bolt strip off a round. I was running the rifle very dry during day one of the shoot; day two I lubed up the bolt carrier and I noticed a lot smoother functioning. What I would have liked if Spike offered via Aim Surplus the same thing in rifle length gas system.
