Aimpoint vs Eotech, yeah yeah yeah.

As everyone before me, I'm debating between an Aimpoint vs Eotech, and I've read all the comparisons, watched all the videos, garnered as much info without actually using either of the two as I can.

I know a lot of it comes down to personal preference, and possible experience with each of them (which I do not have). Not looking to start an Eotech vs Aimpoint battle here, but just looking for any input that covers things beyond what you typically find in the reviews and comparisons.

The main important points between the two that I've come up with:

Aimpoint:


longer battery life and can have it always on
less busy reticle
maybe a little more durable
people typically do lower 1/3 cowitness
doesn't come with mount, but many options available

Eotech (mainly looking at the xps2):


Shorter battery life, but uses readily available cr123
Some love the 1moa + 65moa reticle
Some say it has quicker target acquisition
people typically do true center cowitness
blocks a minimal amount of peripheral vision
comes with mount

I don't care about NV, but I may possibly want to use a magnifier.


Does anyone know if there are ranges that have Aimpoints or Eotechs in stock that will let me test one out? If not, are there any kind members that would let me mount one on my gun to test (even if it means not shooting it, but just having it on there and pointing it around for a bit)?


Any other comments are welcome, and I'm sorry, I know many of you guys are probably sick of these comparison questions, but seems like everyone goes down this route once...

Not sure what your eyesight is like, but mine isn't the greatest. Not sure why, but the Eotech reticle gets blurry on me. The Aimpoint stays clear for me. For this main reason, I prefer the Aimpoints over the Eotech. The insane battery life of the Aimpoints is a big plus too.

Eotech reticles are easier and quicker for me to acquire targets within CQB distances, but Aimpoints are easier to shoot at targets past 150 yards. Magnified, Eotechs work well at longer distances, but the extra weight sucks. Each has their strengths, but I'd rather have my ACOG that works well for both distances using the Bindon Aiming Concept, and requires no batteries.

...and before anyone complains about the price, add up the cost of an Aimpoint red dot and 3x Magnifier with a decent mount, and you're in the same neighborhood. Quality costs more, but with optics, you get what you pay for.

I would love an acog, but I'm left eye dominant, right hand shooter, and both eyes open with any sort of zoom throws me off - but I can do it fine with a red dot. I'm not sure if I should just be a noob and close my left eye when using scopes, or if I should put in the years of practice, eye patches, etc to try and train my brain to handle both eyes open with a scope.

I can use one eye on the ACOG for longer distances, but both eyes for scanning, as the magnification is only evident when you stop.

I'm curious if anybody ever had a good working AA battery for 8 years...
when you buying a new batteries the package stamp shows expiration in about 4-5yrs. It seems like an aimpoint prolongs the battery life for another 3yrs,
so using aimpoint you recharge the battery, right? [Bang]

I used to be an eotech snob, then got a hellaofagud deal on a trijicon t32 or whatever the hell it is. Since then, trijicon optics are breading in the gun safe and the eotech's are getting a divorce...

Big advantage is the non use of batteries...I'm horrible with that crap and the cold weather where I hunt does not like batteries!!!

Went ahead and picked up an Eotech XPS2-0 the other day. I'm sure I'll eventually evolve into an Acog guy, but for now, I really like the Eotech.

Now, just need to find some time to go shooting this weekend! pics to follow...

Aimpoint. Get a comp m4 they use 1 AA bat. I can't remember the last time I changed a battery on mine. It's constant on I think my battery is 3-4 years old. All if them at nvg compatible. The comp m4 is a 2 moa. Even the comp m2 is a good optic you can find those locally used for under $200 and they are pretty much bomb proof. 4moa and have a 5 year battery life. Not bad.

Im cross dominant as well but I still can shoot with an acog just fine. I keep both eyes open at all times and my non dominant eye takes over when i focus on the reticle. Now iron sights are a different story.
