Ok, my wife's vehicle is an 07 arcadia with appx 68k of miles. Her average commute is 2 miles 4 days a week(flmao). Now, she drives down to the springs at least once a week for grandma time with the kids. While she was down there last week, she had the check engine light come on. She took the car into her dad's mechanic who said the o2 sensor was jacked. So he replaced it, and I asked him to also replace the battery. No big deal right, well she comes home on friday and on Sunday i took the kids to Murdochs to get some rootbeer and a saw. The damn stabiltrak goes to hell, the check engine light comes on, and the engine lacks any power to go anywhere. It basically breaks down about a mile from the store. No big deal, wife comes and picks up the kids, i give the car some time to breath and it starts back up. It runs fine and I can drive it home. So I call GMC this morning and tell them i need to bring it in. So same damn thing happens again, but before i get to the dealership a loud bang goes off. I fiugred a fuse blew, but who knows. I'm so pissed off at this vehicle, and frigg'n gmc. After that fuse or what the hell ever blew i was hoping that it would start on fire, and i'd let it burn. I'd even through some dry weeds on it to help send it off. So we'll see what happens tomorrow after the dealership runs diags. In 1 month time frame here's what has failed:
power steering pump
water pump
tires
o2 sensor
battery
I frigg'n take good care of this thing, and here i am, almost 5k in the hole on repairs. Time to get rid of it! [BooHoo]
Bummer.
There hasn't been a quality vehicle built in the states since the early 70's. Think I'll stick to my imports.

The last half way good gm was made in 99' since then i've bought a 94' toyota and never had a problem i couldnt fix with ducktape
Ask Obama for a bailout. GM got one. I'd find a good independent shop so they get no more of your money.

The first two are BS. The last three aren't surprising. GM must be building cars for 70k life now instead of 100k.
Bummer.

I'm ashamed to say I agree. I still love American trucks but my last two cars have been Nissan.
I currently own a 1993 GMC truck. It was built in Mexico. My previous truck was a Nissan. It was built in Tenessee.
Neither one of them are as nice as the Honda's and Nissan's I've owned that were made in Japan.

Why would you take it back to the dealership? Its out of warranty right?

And my last Ford truck was made in Canada. Just doesn't feel right. I'll stick with Nissan.

Heard that big wig from GM speaking in China on the radio.
Didn't know 70% of all GM cars are built elsewhere...most manufacturing taking place in China, Brazil, and Europe. All that tax payer money to save GM went overseas for foreign plants. Thanks Obama.
Yup, many "domestics" are made overseas and many "imports" are made right here.
Cars.com does a report each year of the most "american" cars based on sales, parts content (including considering how many Americans are employed by manufacturing said parts and cars) and place of manufacture. Some of the cars on the list will surprise you...like the fact that the Toyota Camry is the number 1 most American car 4 years running.
http://www.cars.com/go/advice/Story.jsp?section=top&subject=ami&story=amMade0712
I am not a fan of the Acadia at all based on the few times I have rented them, but based on this cars.com report, they are highly "American".
And the Tundra is the most American made truck. F150 is 2nd.
Edit: or I read a recent article pointing that way. The cars.com shows differently.

There's the problem. When I hear something is made in America that tells me it is most likely built by fat, lazy, overpaid workers who have no pride in anything they do and just show up and do as little as possible to earn a paycheck.
It wasn't like that years ago. People used to take pride in what they did and valued a good job and worked hard to keep it.
tires
o2 sensor
battery
Those are standard wear items in a vehicle.

That was true last year because that year the F-150 only had a 60% domestic parts content and the Tundra had about 80%. The 2012 model has 75% domestic parts content and is back on top. I believe the Tundra still has about 80% but many more F-150s are sold than Tundras so even though it has less American parts, the F-150 employes more Americans to make the higher volume of parts required...at least that's the theory behind the cars.com report.

ford expedition
Honda Pilot
or any other ideas? Remember, it's for the ol lady and she pays for the gas and drives...I told her if she follows my recommendation on a old K5 blazer with a diesel engine i'd pay for gas...What a pipe dream...

As far as automotive manufacturing goes, America is Japan's Mexico.

here's the update...
called the gmc dealer ship at park meadows at 8:30, they already had it in the bay running diags. Jeff, my service rep yesterday said it would cost 98$ to run the diags on the computer. So, I figured at best I'd get out of this deal around a bill. Well, because the recall work was needed for the computer they ran the diags and had 19 critical errors that would cause the vehicle to go into "low gear" mode. After talking to the service rep and the tech guy, all they did was clear out the computer, drop the power connection to make sure it rebooted and the car ran fine, no problems what so ever.
HERE'S my question...WTF? They clear out the errors and reboot and all the problems go away??? Grr, i wish my job was that easy...[Rant2]
So kudos to Jeff and GMC dealership, however, I think my next vehicle will be a Ford Expedition. Got out of there with a Zero dollar bill...

You have to keep in mind that cars these days are run by at a minimum of 30 computers. What is the first thing you do when your comp messes up and crashes? Turn it off and see if it happens again. They probably cleared the codes and drove it a minimum of 4 miles to see if any codes came back.
Used to have an american Dodge pickup made in Mexico,
Now I have a Japanese Toyota made in Illinois. hmmmmm.........[ROFL2]

Here I am sitting in the repair shop again. Frig'n stabiltrak went to all hell when i took the kids into day care. Techs here can't figure it out. I really hate this car. Everyone I've talked to about the Ford Expedition loves em, i always have, just gotta get my wife to see the light...

I run aix and linux, i don't need to reboot, but thxs for the info. I figured i was running windowsME under the hood on an amd chipset. The tech got a kick out of that comment and went off just lol'ing his head off...

you guys are never going to believe this...
I have to eat my words, GMC does not suck...MICE SUCK![NoEvil]
So the service rep calls me back, asking about driving, and pest control...I'm like WTF? Then he really starts drilling me on where I live, by an open field yadda yadda...Well, here's the result:
http://jtmiller.info/nest1.JPG
My wife drives this car everyday, and we went on vacation for 5 days...Looks like i gotta get some traps and await for the upcoming battle. The service techs at GMC ParkMeadows have been great, insurance is gonna cover the costs then I trade this in and get my ford...
I know there's another thread dealing with mice, but i'm going in, tactickewl with an orange life vest on!

Life vests are for stopping bullets. If your mice are armed, you have much bigger problems than a nest.
Well I hope you give your Acadia the apology it deserves.
Bummer.

THIS!
Now do you guys see why I drive a precision German auto? Granted when something goes wrong it's expensive, but I had more problems with my Dodge than I've had with my BMW. [Beer]

My wife had a saturn outlook which is almost the same vehicle as yours and had very similar problems. The check engine light would come on and the stabili trak would flash and you would hear strange sounds. The engine never died however. Over the course of about 6 months this happened about 6 or 7 times and every time they would say the O2 sensor was bad, reset the computer and give the car back. This got progressively worse and we took it in and said enough already, fix the car. They had it for about 7 weeks replaced the computer, electrial harness, cat converter and manifold on the R side. They never did find out the problem and ended up trading for a new vehicle. If you do a little poking around on the internet, you will find similar stories regarding other outlooks. I hope yours does not turn out as bad as ours did because it was a nightmare fighting with the dealer and GM corporate.

I changed my moms spark plugs on her 2005 f150 and it took me 6 hours and I have a good set of tools it is a total pain in the ass. Also the plugs are like $11 a piece but they did last 100,000 miles. To bad the motor had a nice little ticking at 130k
