View Full Version : computer problems
Need a little help.
I have an ASUS. K52F
I've had a couple spam windows pop up using Firefox. I would just close them and continue on my business.
Tonight I got about 30 pop up messages with a heading of "system message-write fault error"
Then I got "hard disc failure detected" and it shut down.
Anybody got some help?
Sounds like you need to take an immediate image of your hard drive and replace it. Its likely on its way out. Don't use it until you can get a good image, or you run the risk of losing all your data.
It could also be spyware that installed on your system that throws a bunch of bogus error messages. Any clicking sounds coming from the drive? Do you have the install DVD with Windows on it?

It could also be spyware that installed on your system that throws a bunch of bogus error messages. It sounds like a trojan. What happens next is a rootkit is downloaded via trojan.
I dis some research last night so it looks like a Trojan virus so I need ti get it removed

Your computer and your guns and ammo all have viruses. You should give them all to me and I'll give them back after I fix them. [Tooth]

If it is the HD crapping out, go with what 00tec said. If it's spyware, here's a useful article that got me up and running once:

Malwarebytes is the only spyware remover that has worked for me.

I started with the free version, but quickly went with the paid version once I saw how well it worked. I've been spyware/malware free ever since. Worse case scenario is back up your files online or to an external, and re-install the OS. If that doesn't work out, get yourself a MAC and you won't have to worry about that crap anymore.

If your system shut down, then it's likely the hard drive crapping out, and not bogus error messages from malware. Hope you got a backup.
That said, you should still be running virus and trojan protection, and I second the motion for malwarebytes, after you get your data backed up and/or replace the hard drive.
Well I downloaded Malwarebytes. And did some cleaning up. Just backed up documents and pictures etc to CDs and DVDs after scanning them.
I'm back up and running but I continue to get a Adobe install that pops up about every 5 minutes. It isn't affecting anything else as far as I can tell but it is annoying. If I can't get it all cleaned up I'm going to swipe the whole system clean and start over. I just had to make sure I saved my stuff. everything else is easy to replace!

Be safe, root kits now can reside inside of video memory. I recommend buying a new hdd and plug the old hdd into a nix system to copy your data.
Make sure you have all the spyware/adaware/antivirus/rootkit sw loaded right after you image that hdd. Then use clonezilla to make a backup image of it so you have a legit restore point.

Combo fix is a AV program that is real effective for bad bugs. Kind of the nuclear option though. I personally have used it with great results.
