Students with such permits hoping to live in on-campus residence halls will be allowed to store their firearms at the University of Colorado Police Department.
Access will be on an appointment only basis from 1:00 to1:15 AM on alternate, odd numbered Tuesdays...

If I didn't have a gun and attended CU Boulder...I'd request to live in that dorm 100%

Same here. I remember going to UCCS and they were so anti gun there I couldn't even believe it. Especially considering how generally military supportive and right wing the city is.

I guess that they also made it that one can not carry at a ticketed event. I do not see how this will hold up under state law.

They'll be sued again. And they will lose again. This action is illegal.

Can we get a source for this? More BS from the liberal collegiate sect of our oh so grand society.

Mostly they store shotguns, and handguns, but they also have a few swords and paint ball guns. (RJ Sangosti, The Denver Post)
The University of Colorado Boulder and University of Colorado Colorado Springs are amending their student housing contracts, segregating students who possess a valid concealed-carry permit.
The university said Thursday morning that both campuses will establish a residential area for residents over age 21 with a permit. In other residential areas, students will not be permitted to carry a concealed weapon, the new policy states.
In addition, attendees at ticketed athletic and cultural events on both campuses will not be permitted to engage in concealed carry, the university said.
Patrick T. O'Rourke, vice president of the Board of Regents, states in a CU release that the amendments to the housing contracts are lawful.
"In contrast to other public buildings, student housing presents a relationship that is essentially landlord-tenant," O'Rourke said.

I remember that there was a San Francisco court case on this and the federal court ruled that you can't take away the 2nd Amendment right.

Just wait, all they need is a minority female with a conceal permit to file a lawsuit. We are talking civil rights violations on multiple counts...

I just sent an email to Bronson Hillard asking him to explain the difference between the new press release and the current statement on the campus PD website. also said that both do not follow what the courts just ruled.
Press release: http://www.colorado.edu/news/releases/2012/08/16/cu-boulder-announces-conditions-weapons-university-housing

I also copied the email to the nice guys at RMGO, i figured they would jump at the chance file a lawsuit. ;)
I hope they see a massive class action lawsuit and the liberals going there get to pay for all the CCW students education.
This article is BS. Makes me mad, they will never stop.

Yes! You should also send one to the NRA. They probably won't get as involved, but having Wayne and Dudley down CU's throat would be so cool! I refuse to give CU my support and will be rooting for CSU this year! [Beer]

CU-Boulder faculty chairman says he'll cancel his classes if students carry guns
http://www.denverpost.com/ci_21357345/cu-boulder-faculty-chairman-says-hell-cancel-classes
CU physics professor Jerry Peterson -- speaking for himself Monday, not the faculty group he leads -- said he wants his students to feel safe to engage in classroom discussions that could be controversial.
"My own personal policy in my classes is if I am aware that there is a firearm in the class -- registered or unregistered, concealed or unconcealed -- the class session is immediately canceled," Peterson said. "I want my students to feel unconstrained in their discussions."
---------------------------
I'm not much of an agitator, and I prefer to keep my gun ownership and CCW status private, but this would be worth going back to school for. At the start of each class, just go up to the prof and remind him that you're carrying. Will he cancel every class for the whole semester?

Big whoop Jerry. Either you won't know or you will have to cancel class every time and then be the subject of multiple lawsuits from both gun owning and non-gun owning students whose time and money you wasted and education you fucked up. You are there to teach, not to cancel class based on your personal interpretation as to the laws that apply to your school. Don't like it? Retire...

They will also claim that their policy is working when no CCW related incidents occur whether or not they are aware of the weapons being carried. Since the vast majority of CCW holders are responsible law abiding citizens, it's almost assured that the same thing would happen without the silly rules.

I would do that in a heartbeat. He won't have a job for very long if he's costing the school money due to all the lawsuits. Or even better...CU could kick you out for doing that and you could sue for 10x the amount. As long as you buy us all guns though [ROFL1]

I'm a university student and I think this is pretty ridiculous. If my physics professor(s) canceled classes simply because someone with a CCW was carrying, then I would be royally pissed off because those lectures aren't given for free. How would they even verify whether someone was carrying in a class or not anyways? I mean, it's not like every gun owner in existence is on some agenda to harm others. I suppose a system could be implemented to enable professors to see which students have CCWs, but that's definitely treading on thin ice since it's a completely discriminatory process. On the other hand, colleges could tighten up security and develop some sort of mandatory search process upon entering a campus, but I just see that as a waste of time and money since violence on campuses isn't a rampant issue to begin with.
