Came across a Colt flat top HBAR upper with 20" barrel 1:9 twist, standard A2 handguards and bird cage flash hider. Includes a BCG with the C proof on the side. No sights.

Nothing particularly notable about the upper, besides being a Colt but might be an interesting addition, particulary if I can find a comparable Colt lower to go with it.

Curious what others have to say. Any intrinsic collector value for Colt ARs?

No value... I can give you a $100 for it.

That is what I was thinking too. They are asking $699.00.

You're paying for the name. You could do the same upper w/out Colt on it for a few dollars cheaper.

Understand that but this is more for collector value than practical use. Expect my current AR will be able to shoot rings around this one. Has a bayonet lug on it, so guessing it is pre-ban era, but hard to say without the corresponding lower.

No collector value unless it had a front and rear Colt sight assy's. Even then it's an upper only. Value will be what the market dictates. The bayo lug and flash hider may get you more return on your investment being sold to a ban state buyer.
One thing that puzzles me (not to hard to do) is every Colt factory gun i have seen in a 20" config was
1:7 twist
A2 or A3 (detachable carry handle / flat top)
AND always had a fixed front sight post instead of no sights. Not to say it is not a complete Colt upper, just have not ran across one in the config you listed.

Actually I was surprised it didnt' come with the detachable carry handle as well. I'll see about getting some pictures to post. Could be a parts gun. I recall Colt manufacturing 1:9 twist barrels but agree the ones I'm most accustomed to are 1:7.

Try this link...Colt made 1:12, 1:9 and 1:7 twists...

Sounds like it might be a R6700 upper?

Nice link. Have to check the bayonet lug but sounds about right sans the detachable carrying handle.

Appreciate everyone's advice. Something was definitely odd about the upper. Gas block was similar to the one you'd see on a A2 front sight, but no front sight and it had a bayonet stud.

Upper was actually attached to a pre-ban lower, complete with sear block. CH serial number prefx indicated it was a 6700. Rifle came with a second A2 upper with 1/9 twist, complete with carry handle receiver...etc.

Nice set up for a shooter but no collector value.
