Injured Dog Rescued From Mountain; Owner Who Left It There Wants It Back

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/08/injured-dog-rescued-from-mountain-owner-who-left-it-there-wants-it-back/

Long story short, some guy abandones his dog on Mt. Bierstadt at 13,500' after it is unable to walk, and just assumes that it dies. Mr. and Mrs Washburn are hiking the mountain and find the dog. Since she (the dog, not Mrs. Washburn) weighs over 100, they have now way to get the dog off the mountain. So they come back later with some friends and put Missy in a backpack and get her off the mountain and to a vet's office where she should make a full recovery. Now the mother effing douchbag f*ckstick that left her on the mountain wants the dog back.

Sure he can have the dog back...let's set up a meeting downtown. Tell him to come alone and when he gets there we can all beat the living shit out of him. Seriously...what kind of person thinks that is acceptable behavior for a human being?

No way that guy left her up there should get her back. No way, no way. Probably can't take care of himself, much less a dog.
Ergh! People are stupid and selfish!!!

Screw him, he abandoned the animal while it was injured. He obviously does not realize that pet ownership is a responsibility. With that responsibility comes the good and bad.
Scuzzbag.
Thankful I am not his kid!

screw that guy. id never leave my dog up there. shoot, if she couldn't walk id probably stay up there until i ran out of food trying to figure out a way to get her down. if all else failed id set her up some form of a shelter, RUN down the mountain, and get help anywhere i could. worst case id make some form of a sled. good lord, its sad dogs are so loyal and yet people abandon them so readily.

Won't happen, In colorado if you lose your pet and its not recovered in 7 days then whoever has said pet is the new lawful owners (thats how I got my lab).

What a douchebag, my dogs are members of my family NOTHING LESS!! Makes you wonder hwo the dog was treated before it was abandoned.

Dog should have never been up there in the first place. The poor thing already had torn up paws before he left it. This guy shouldn't get the dog back. Great story about the rescuers.

Anthony Ortolani is a total scumbag. Let's leave his sorry ass, beaten and wounded and without food or water, on top of a mountain for 8 days and see if anyone cares enough to rescue him.

Douchebag. F**k you...you want your dog back now.

Yes, return the dog. As soon as dog is in his possesion, arrest him to for abuse and cruelty. Confiscate dog and adopt out to good home. Any jury would convict him in a heartbeat.

The lazy scumbag, who couldn't be bothered to make an attempt to rescue the dog, now wants to benefit from the work of others. If that isn't the definition of "mother effing douchbag f*ckstick" I don't know what is. I will gladly pay 1 month's food expenses for whoever ends up with the dog as long as it isn't the original MF'er.

I saw this on 9News the other night. I don't think the guy should get his dog back. You leave your dog up there, first that's messed up, then for 8 days? You don't even go back to see if he's still alive or to even recover the body? Come the hell on. "My bicycle got a flat tire, so I left it on the side of the road assuming it would get stolen, 8 days later I see some guy riding it and now I want it back..." [Bang]

Best dog I ever had I found on top of GA pass in a blizzard, one eye totally beaten up.
Gave her the best 14 years of her life and she gave me the best in her.

I will gladdly take a hike with this guy on the divide and explain the proper care of a pet.

This story opens up the whole gamut of emotions for me. I am angry at the previous owner, sad for what the dog went through, gracious for the couple that made the effort to find people to help rescue the dog, humbled by the people that performed the rescue, and happy that it turned out OK and the dog should get better.

Dogs don't ask for much and give way more than they receive.

The news said the other night that the 15 people that came together to rescue her were all strangers to each other. That's pretty cool!

I would stay with my dog for 8 days before I'd leave her behind to die. It's not like no one ever goes up there. How freakin' hard would it be to have the first person that comes along call for help when they went back down the mountain?

Not to worry, I saved the image.

I can see leaving the dog and getting help but just abandoning it all together is just unforgivable. Great life lesson for the young hikers too.

When I was a kid in the 60's, there was a man named Fred Lewis that lived a few blocks from us. Friend of my dad, big-time outdoorsman, excellent artist, and he made rubber dog boots in a little shop in his backyard. The Lewis Dog Boot Company, and it's still in business! Helluva nice old guy, he showed me how he made them once.

Nowadays there's all kinds of dog boots available, no excuse to take a dog into territory like that without foot protection. Fucker should be ground up and made into dog food.

When I saw this early today I damn near cried. I have no understanding how he could have did what he did. Glad that the dog is ok and I can imagine if he gets into a court room what may happen.

Though as I remember the laws for this are pretty weak. Class 1 MM

I read a story about an old rancher in Utah that died while out on horseback in the middle of no where. They didn't find him for something like 2 or 3 weeks. When they did his two dogs were by his side.

My wife was telling me about someone she knows that has a blind dog that developed a sore that wouldn't heal. Took it to the vet, and the poor dog has at least a dozen pellets in its body from some damn neighbor kid shooting it with a pellet gun. Poor, blind, defenseless dog that can't leave its yard or get away from the shooter, and had no clue what was happening to it. Some people just suck.

Ok rant on. Look if a team member is imobile somtimes you have to get help and leave them. It sucks but it happens. He doesnt go back up bierstat? seriously. its a freakin anthill. He doesnt call search and rescue? Their station is less than a hour away they run up bierstat on their lunch hour. Anthony your a pussy, and a poor excuse of a piece of shit. look at her shes beautiful and she loved you and you left her and didnt go back? unfreakinbelievable.

The only positive twist that i can put on this is that awareness will grow that when hiking with dogs they are totally dependant on you. 14rs are not like a walk in a dog park the rocks are hard on ther paws. You have to prepare for their needs ,be prepared if somthing happens and pay attention to their condition. If the dog is not up to it you might have to change your plans. Dogs are flesh and bones not iron. I know I spent the whole glorious summer in the boonies with my pup.
