View Full Version : Golfers
For those that despise the game of Golf I apologize. However, linking up in certain threads on this forum such as the Jeepers thread has helped me make some new friends and helped us to get together and hang out doing some mutually enjoyed activities. I know there has to be some Golf sluts in here. I sure am! I went to school for golf, got my PGA Card, and used to play nearly daily. Now I don't play hardly at all. Once a month if I'm lucky. Who in here tees it up? This would be a great place to plan some rounds or just get together and go practice? [Dunno]
I have a tournament tomorrow and so today I dusted off the sticks and hit the range for a bit. I posted a vid of my "trying to kill a snake in a phone booth". Critics are welcome. [Beer]

Never tried golf. Then again I get board with miniature golf so I probably wouldn't enjoy the larger version.

I like golf, I don't get out much anymore but took my daughter out a few weeks ago. At 5 she is pretty good. Still trying to get tickets to The Masters but for 4 years now no luck.
The funny thing is swinging a golf club makes me a better shooter. The concentration and attention to detail of a golf swing is incredible. A very small mistake in your swing is amplified when the ball leaves the club face. Shooting is the same way. I noticed that when I went golfing then shooting in the same week my shooting was better.

Funny you say that as I feel the same way. Both are finesse activities and require strong muscle memory to stay sharp at.
I miss golf a lot!
I can't even swing a club anymore right handed, maybe start learning lefty. Golf was almost as addicting as shooting but I'm a much better shooter than golfer (not saying much about ether). Good luck in your tournament and the new pup!

Thanks! I may have to put up some puppy babysitting requests if I have to go out of town.

I don't play golf, so much as walk around the golf course and hit the ball around, when I can find it. Truth to say, I'm a pretty lousy golfer.
I finally quit playing when I came to the conclusion that I'm paying $50.00 to get pissed off.
To say I'm a little competitive would be a major understatement.
But good luck tomorrow. Give em hell.

You played Spring Valley out there in Elizabeth? That's a fun little track! Shame you hung it up. Golf brings out the extremes in people.
LOL. I live in Spring Valley Ranch.
I think the quote that comes to mind is "Piss on golf."

Ah I see. I saw your location as Elizabeth and figured you were out near those parts. Spring Valley Ranch ain't half bad either.
I play also. I've played a number of rounds out at Spring Valley in Elizabeth.
I try and play as much as I can but I still suck.

I golf a fair amount, but very, very poorly. If it wasn't for my wife (who I got interested in golf 20 years ago), I would have given it up a few years out of utter frustration. I fight a terrible case of the "full swing yips", and its raging pretty badly right now. My chipping and putting are keeping me playing - both of which are pretty consistently good. Golf is just such a mental game - even more than shooting I think. Yes, I shoot better than I golf, but thats not saying much.

Dude I have 3 other boys (Jack, Jack corggie, black lab), I'm sure the wouldn't mind a play mate for a few if you need it. Its funny sometimes I think my boys are living waaaay better than me lol
My home life isn't bad enough to play golf.

That's why my wife always comes with me. She doesn't play golf but is happy to come out and walk around the course with me. Great way for her to get exercise, me to play golf, and for us to spend 4 uninterrupted hours together. Win for all parties involved.
I like golf. I enjoy playing golf, but it takes too much time to practice.
I think I spent more $$ on practice than actual game at a course.
I did invest my money on turf and golf net about 4 years ago.

Practice can be very expensive. A lot of local courses will work out a good practice program though. I've seen courses that will do like $300 for the year for unlimited range time and then of course short game practice included. That's not a terrible option. I wish I were rich enough to join a sweet private club where you can just practice whenever/play whenever.

Totally agree. CO is a great place to play golf. It is not top 10 state, but still great place. Practice can be really expensive, except chippin range or putting range. Those are free. :D
Probably best chipping practice range I've seen in CO so far is Ute Creek in Longmont.

You know why they call it golf?? All the other 4 letter words are taken!! Golf is supposed to be fun, set your expectations low and have a blast !!

I'll play. Haven't played much this year, yet I purchased new forged irons and a driver. Few years ago I had a membership but now I only play a few times a years. This would give me a great excuse to swing the sticks
Well Arrowhead was fun today. The weather was chilly this morning but it warmed up. The course was in good shape and the greens were pretty quick. Anyone else played there recently? I think they mowed them nice and tight for the tournament but who knows. I was praying and spraying out there but I still had a great time. [Golf]

I'm not impressed
My wife and I both played in high school. I used to be a scratch golfer, I now with work and a kid my handicap has fallen off quite a bit. I still love to get out and play and get calls for tournaments which I enjoy.
I would be down to play sometime and I have a few friends who enjoy playing as well

I'm definitely going to be getting into golf before the end of this year. I just need to buy a left-handed set of clubs. I have a right-handed set, but I'm going to have to lend them to my sister since I can't use them.

Patrick and I always went to heather gardens, it's a full 9 hole course that can be quite challenging...and for $13 for 2 walking is always affordable. Let me know.

meh...just turn them around, you'll be FINE!!! just record the results[ROFL1]
check craigslist, you can find good deals on there to get you started, then if you really like the game, you WILL get addicted, and you will end up buying top dollar items that make you feel like a great golfer[Tooth]

Never played there but I'd be down. What are your days off now? We rotate in two weeks and I move to graves with Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday off. Anyone else have the middle of the week off?

Are you a pro at a club?
Golf was my life for the last 10 years. I am now tring to find a club in the area that has a handicapped golf cart for me to use.
I am not a pro anymore. Just a weekend (more like monthly) warrior.

Cool. Where were you at? I have been a pro in NH and GA. For the last 7 years I was a teaching pro.
Sorry I saw that I never responded back to you...I have worked at Country Club of Louisiana, Eisenhower, Club at Cordillera, and Kings Deer. Maybe someday I will get back into working in the industry. Also, I played down in Monument last Friday and HOLY BALLS IT WAS FREEZING. There were little snow flurries coming down on the back nine. Anyone else played recently?
My brother is the big golfer; got his certification to teach and he is the assistant pro at a club.
I haven't played since I ruptured a disc in my back; little nervous to swing a club.

By Monument, do you mean the Woodmoor Country Club? I grew up there; played that course throughout junior high and school...in the 80's.
I played a couple weeks ago over at Common Ground in Aurora. The course was nice but the staff and some of the other customers turned me off.

Am I the only one in the Springs?
I started playing last fall - guys at work got me into it - nice way to get to leave early - go play in the company golf league!
I found a full set (4-S) Callaway X-20 irons and three RAC wedges for 200 on Craigs list and then a Burner set - 3,5 and driver for 100.
I am shooting 52-62 usually.
Anyone else down here play?
I'd like to get up to Denver to play the course spleify mentioned:

Woodmor as now become "Monument Hill Country Club". It's gay I know. I was playing over at Eisenhower at the Air Force Academy.
Did anyone get some golf in with this amazing weather the last few days? I am going to TX for Thanksgiving and I'll be playing EVERY DAY. Can't wait. [Golf]
Been a while since a Golfers thread got bumped. I know we have a bunch of dudes on here that tee it up. Let's together and play! Who has a hookup somewhere or can play for cheap? Since changing career paths I no longer get playing privileges anywhere! I'm open to play wherever and would like to meet some new guys from the forum.

My version of golf involves tees at 100yd increments out to 500, a .308 or 5.56 and seeing how far I can move them

I play but not well. However, I like to play when I can.
I'm up for playing also. I personally like playing Spring Hill in Aurora, 6th and Airport Rd across from Buckley Airforce base. Its cheap and a pretty good course. I havnt played this year but its right around $36 or $38 for 18 an d a cart. I dont walk, I ride.
Hell yeah 10mm I didn't know you play! We are definitely hitting the links. I don't play much anymore at all and I suck. I'm not just saying that to sandbag you when we are betting on the first tee! We will definitely tee it up when I get back into town!

I play, i'm ok. I play the front nine like a complete beginner, and the back nine like i actually know something. I'm down to play whenever. My sister in law started today out at Arrowhead as the cart girl while she's home from school. We will see if she can get some good deals.
I like to play even though I'm not to good. I'm up for playing with any guys that want to play.
Love to play golf even as a hacker. I've never had a single digit handicap and right now shooting between 85-95 a round. I like the Dunes a lot, but not the greens fee's. Supposed to play Thorncreek in the AM, work permitting. Being a complete golf fanatic, my biggest thrill is playing as many fantastic courses as I can, PGA West, Bandon Dunes, Wolf Creek, Multiple courses in Myrtle Beach, Mesquite, and Palm Springs. Arrowhead, Castle Pines North, and Aspen were probably the nicest courses I've played in Colorado. All time favorite golf experience hands down was BethPage Black just because of the hoops I jumped through to get on and the course is truly a gem. I will play anytime I can if bogey golf doesnt frustrate you.

Golf about weekly, but game has deteriorated quite a bit. "Tennis elbow" in both elbows doesn't help and a generous helping of full swing yips has pretty much destroyed my long game. To an extent I make it up around the greens, but I think my golf days may be numbered...
I got out for my first round of the year this weekend. Just did the 9 holes at Family Sports Center to get warmed up. Got a deal on Golf now for like $12. It felt good to get back out there. Bring on summer!
I have arthritis now, and haven't played golf since few years after Ping G/i 5 came out. :(
