Hi,
I just purchased this rifle and am having a hard time trying to figure out what variation it is. It has two sets of sling mounts, a stacking swivel?, straight bolt, and the german markings are rubbed out. Anyone have any ideas?

The front end looks like the WWI Kar98, but the receiver marking doesn't seem to be WWI. I think it would have been "Kar98" in a fancier script. Does the bolt match the rest of the rifle? Any stock markings?
What you have there is a refurb Polish mauser-check the cartouce on the stock and see if there is anything marked wz.

I agree with Zteknik: Great find on that Kar. And Z..excellent quick research. I was stumped on that stock with the rear sling attachment. I'm looking forward to more pics and info on your rifle Helopitts

Thanks for the info!!! There is an A stamped into the left side of the stock near the side sling attachment and on the right it looks like there was a square stamped on the stock but it is very faint. I don't think the bolt is correct. From what I just looked up I think it needs a bent handle with a knurled knob. Let the internet search begin!.
Can't wait to shoot it!!
I may not know much ,but I do know what Polish looks like-Takes one to know one ;)

more pics
Usualy if there scrubbed that means it was a captured rifle, and the bolts were commonly taken out during capture and put in one pile and the rifle in another.
Just saw your new pictures-Yup a wz 29 even though its not matching numbers the bolt is correct for it.

z's a polak so you probably have him drooling on his keyboard ;) nice mauser by the way i'm surprised no one's noticed it's a small ring, bob, weren't polish cavalry carbines small rings? (also i believe the base rifle the germans used for their mountain carbines)

Yea I had to dry the keyboard of! :D
Yup they did use them for the cav. Also some of the ones the germans used for the mountain troops were the wz 98's ad there other conscripted arsenals.
