View Full Version : any gunsmiths want to check headspace for me?

Looking for gunsmith reccomendations to solve a mystery for me....

I have a 16" 5.56 1/7 barrel AR that fires 55 and 62 gr ammo fine. I just tried some 68 gr loads (factory loads )and it was keyholing horribly at 50 meters. The upper is new (approx 200 rounds total), no visible defects, flash suppressor is tight, and fires the lighter loads fine (I've fired out to 400 meters accurately.... well, as accurately as I can anyway).

I checked the grooves, and it is a 1/7 barrel like it is stamped (figure the manufacturer could make the odd mistake), and cant figure this out. Headspace issue?

If anyone has a reccomended shop around Denver, I'd appreciate it.
