...initial quote I heard on the news was "not small like a normal handgun, it was either a sawed off shotgun or an automatic weapon" (they apparently look similar...).

Very sad that sick people do bad things.

Just another incident bloomberg will blame on guns yet in his own backyard it proves even his own trespasses on the constitution will not stop those willing to commit crimes no matter what laws are written.

How very convenient for the anti-gun crowd. Is it still coincidence if it happens on a regular basis? Man, I hope I have enough tin foil in the stockpile. . .

Update: It seems possible (or likely) that some of the shooting victims we hit by gunfire from the police...

http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/08/24/shooting-reported-outside-empire-state-building/comment-page-68/

Gunman Jeffrey Johnson, 53, killed one person before he was shot to death outside the busy tourist destination just after 9 a.m., Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said. The victim was Johnson's former coworker at Hazan Imports, where Johnson was a designer of women's accessories.
At least nine others were wounded in the exchange of gunfire outside the Empire State Building, Kelly said.
"Some may have been accidentally shot by police officers," Kelly said.

If the police did most of the injuries with their shooting then they forgot about the safety rules of knowing what is behind your target or they are poor shots. How very sad for the victims and thir families.

He'll just blame it on other states that don't have laws as bad as his...he will be sending his henchmen out to harass whatever store this gun originally came from and sue them out of business. No matter how many times the gun has changed hands since then. That's how he works. Bloom is a criminal.

They're saying it's the 3rd mass shooting this summer... [Bang] So now one guy shoots a fmr co-worker and police end up shooting him (and hitting 8 more???) it's a mass shooting? WTF?

If banning guns in NY is so successful then NYPD should give up their guns and do as the British do.

They even said in one report I read that the guy shot his co-worker, who was his only intended victim, and the others were all injured when the police shot at him. Yet they are still calling it a mass shooting. Liberlogic strikes again.

I hope all the injured end up recovering and go on to be able to live normal lives. It sounds like they are saying that most of the injuries were "grazes".

Hopefully NYPD didn't light anyone up too badly. I'm sure they were too shocked at the thought of someone besides them having a gun in the city limits that they were unable to steady their sight picture. [ROFL2]

Actually, many of the Bobbies now carry handguns. I recently heard an interview with one who said that it's the only way they feel safe anymore due to increased crime & violence.

The fact that he was on a crowded street did not seem to make that much of a difference to them, although I'll bet they probably fired a few less rounds than they would have otherwise. Typically NYPD empties the magazine in a shooting incident . . . and misses with at least half of their shots.

They landed on target with at least 10 of their 14 shots.

Unfortunately at least 9 of them were on bystanders. Latest reports are that a man carrying a 1911 (no high capacity full auto assault pistols this time...) walked up to his former place of employment, went straight for one individual, and shot him in the head. Police returned fire.

So, you're saying he used a "police-style glock with high-cap clips"? [Bang]

Whacko: 1 Dead

NYPD: 1 Dead, 9 injured.

The logical course would be to disarm the NYPD, or ban them altogether in NYC. For the childrens!

Condolences to the friends and families of those that were killed or injured.

That is why Bloomberg supports NYPD policy of random searches of citizens on the street. If the shooter had been subjected to a random "stop and frisk" this tragedy would've been avoided.

Perhaps Bloomberg should be subject to a random "stop and roshambo"
