View Full Version : Museum- For the first time in years
Yesterday, the gal I'm dating invited me to come with her to the Museum. So I got to take a half day for the first time in a while, and went. WOW! I haven't been there in so long and forgot how cool it was. My mom's good friend works there and got us in for free, plus we got free tickets to the planetarium and IMAX. This girl and I are really into space and went to see the planetarium presentation on Black Holes that was narrated by Liam Neeson, then a fascinating IMAX on "Space Junk" in 3D narrated by Tom Wilkinson. We also visited the space exhibit there and they have this awesome globe that the guy can project any planet and various satellite related feeds of earth onto. So cool! We're both in our late 20's and that place is just as awesome as it was when I went as a kid. I highly suggest you guys go check it out, even if you don't have kids, and recommend the planetarium and IMAX shows we saw. [Beer]

Yeah, and it was an added bonus to go down into the basement and see where the admin people work... turned out both this lady I knew and another guy my mom used to work with both work there. Best part, her husband works at the zoo so that might be the next adventure!

Raining dates!
Museums rock! I've always loved them. At least the ones with cool shit, not the ones with just freakin' art hanging everywhere. Natural History, Western, Military, Guns, etc., dig 'em all.
I've always enjoyed the Museum and Zoo as date spots.. maybe it's just the kid in me..Love to go.
Brew @ the Zoo is perdy spiffy Ronin.. [Beer] AAANNNDDD it's Sept 7th!

Damn, that weekend is gonna be busy! I'm going to that! The 8th is my mom's old work's reunion, then the 9th is the Evergreen Big Chili Cook Off.

If you go to Florida for a vacation, try the IMAX theater at the Kennedy Space Center, then go on the bus tour of the complex. I spent 10 years in that area...

Did you say, you are dating your moms best friend that works at the museum.. Or you did her at the museum? Dam..man.
I love museums! Always drove my kids crazy as I would threaten stopping in any small town to see the local display. Wife hates me too!
That is not the "Museum". It is a museum. There are many excellent museums in the metro area. I have been very disappointed with it since they remodeled it. I will only go for special exhibits and even then I have lowered my expectations so I won't be disappointed. I generally love museums and will cut them a lot of slack just to see what they have but the Denver Museum of Nature and Science is a disappointment.
There are too many other great museums in this area to waste my time there.
OK rant off. I appologize for the negativity. I just look at as another example someone having too free tax money to spend it wisely. They took something great and turned into mediocrity.

If you get a chance, go to Cody Wyoming. I spent almost two days in there when they had a special firearms exhibit. I think it was the Colt collection but I didn't take any pics and the memory isn't so great. The number of serial number 1's and wooden prototypes.... [Love2][Love1][Love4]
Then there was the Remington art exhibit. Fricking awesome.

Maybe you could recommend these museums to us?
Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison
Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver
Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden
Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum in Boulder
Forney Transportation Museum in Denver
Colorado History Museum in Denver
There are a lot of museums run by the cities and private entities in the metro area that are worth a visit. They are small enough that you can see them when you only have a couple hours.
Wikipedia has a list of museums in Colorado-

For about 10 years I lived 30 minutes from the museum. The Buffalo Bill/Remington Arms museum in Cody Wyoming. I spent a lot of my youth in that museum and learned so much about the west and firearms from there. I would highly recommend taking the family to that area for a vacation. So much to do. The rodeo, the museum, shootouts on the street in the evenings, parades, close enough to Yellowstone thay you can hop over there for a few days...great place to be a kid.
Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum in Boulder
Don't let a Mines Grad see you put their museum in Boulder! You might find your house all of a sudden sinking into the ground.[Muaha]
