Story is on Yahoo. 21 years is max sentence for killing 77 people?

Wow, just wow. That's just barely over 3 months per death. [Eek3]

Justice is an antiquated concept.

Heard an interview with one of the Norweigian officials about the sentence:

Reporter: "As we know, Norway does not have capital punishment. What is the chance the shooter will be released early"?

Norwegian official: "We don't think so"

???????? You mean a mass murderer who pops something like 77 people has any sort of chance in getting out of prison in less than 21 years?????? "We don't think so" is a lot more timid than "no chance".

This is one of those reminders that as screwed up as the US is, the rest of the world is often worse...

I've been to Norway before. They seem like nice folk but they are stubborn and do things their own way. The sentence can and almost certainly will be extended. I think it has something to do with their flavor of Protestantism that took root that he will be there until he realizes what he did and repents. I'm not sure how well the Norwegians manage cons who find God to get out. Probably as well as the US.

On a similar note, France recently announced that it will start aggressively campaignimg for world wide elimination of the death penalty.

If the Liberals get their wish and the hi-cap magazine ban passes, citizens here will face 10 years of prison simply for owning a single empty 30 rd mag in their own home, with no parole or early release in the federal system. Compare that to a 21 year sentence for a mass shooting spree.

I was less than impressed when I read that he is getting 21 years. Of course here though straight up LEGIT 1st Degree Burglary convictions end up getting paroled. It blows my mind. For those who don't know 1st Deg Burg is where the person committing the crime either possesses a deadly weapon during the act or assaults someone while in the home or while fleeing the home, basically. That is some serious shit and they just get to go out and be "supervised" only to start working on how to do it better so they don't get caught a second time. If you have legimiately taken the life of just one other person with no justifiable reason, you don't deserve a life of your own. You kill over 70? Fuck me that should be a non-negotiable seat in the zapping chair.

Yeah, but that Grandfather Clause could be eliminated, and then it would apply to ALL hi-cap mags.
