A friend and I were trying to get a tag for 1st Rifle for elk, but the unit we usually go to sold out immediately. We are looking at some other GMUs, but we wouldn't know where to camp and hunt.

I wanted to look somewhere around Steamboat Springs, but the Colorado DOW website is down right now... so I can't look up any other GMUs or the number of leftover or OTC licenses.

*I'll edit this when I get more information, I just wanted to get this up so I wouldn't be lazy about it!

I just looked at the Leftover License page and had no problems getting to it.

My buddy and I have 2nd season OTC Bull for Elk and our Pronghorn tags for our GMU.

with something like 64,000 leftover elk licenses, surely you can find something.

Near Steamboat try anywhere from Rabbit Ears pass West to 3 and 301. Tough to get bulls up there for first season anymore.

Unit 14 on rabbit ears is tough to hunt, steep, but a few may be in there. I have heard of people having good luck in 214 in 3rd season. Good Luck.

Thanks for the tip. Colorado is a BIG state, and I'm new to hunting so it's a bit confusing sometimes. It looks like I have to find a GMU that I can get to and then see if it has licenses available. I think the only one around there that has some left is 15.

You can still get OTC for Unit 53.

There are still a lot of over the counter licenses out there.
