View Full Version : Can you recommend an alternator rebuilder
I want to have an alternator rebuilt and need recommendations for a shop that rebuilds alternators. I live near Parker and prefer south but will go to a Denver area shop if you recommend one.
I prefer to have my alternator rebuilt rather than purchase one off the shelf from a local auto parts store.
Thanks for your recommendations-

I have not heard of a single place that does that anymore. But then I don't look for it either.

As long as the bearings and windings are good, it is a simple job to replace the Brushes and diode pack.

A1 auto electric?? Just north of Bronco's stadium, same side of I25. Used them a lot back when the company I worked for thought "new" trucks were '64's.

The old guy at Auto Electric in Fort collins does a real good job. I've had him do a few for customers

Ya pretty simple to do. I dont know but i am sure their are a few places around. I prefer rebuilding transmissions and power steering pumps as well, why buy other peoples problems.
I did a GM 70's unit a few years back. It was easy. Like side show said, try DIY. You'll likely do it as good as Checker used to.

Personally, I'd just take to your nearest FLAPS and exchange it. (FLAPS= Friendly Local Auto Parts Store)

Cliff does nice work. I gave him a nasty, black, blown 10si and got a perfectly new looking/functioning alt back. Better quality innards than an auto parts store rebuild too. Cost about $80.

Generator Exchange. I believe they are still around. 44th and Federal, just east of there.

You sure that isn't 44th & Sheridan? At least I know of a place right there, next to Edgewater Jeep. Not sure of the name, but I had them rebuild an obscure 6v heater motor once, good service and price. More freakin' motors, generators and alternators than I've ever seen in my live.

Sheridan is 5200 west. So Generator Exchange should be off 44th and Federal.
