View Full Version : Indoor USPSA/IPSC Matches in Colorado Springs
On the first Monday evening of each month DCF will host a IPSC/USPSA Match.
No walk in shooters are allowed. You must sign up for the match ahead of time at https://practiscore.com/clubs/dcf_uspsa_colorado_springs_east The match is not avail on the club calendar until 3-4 days before the match.
There is a cap on the number of shooter we can accommodate so keep that in mind when trying to decide when to sign up.
There will **NOT** be matches on Federal Holidays such as New Years Day, Presidents Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, ect.
This match will normally include a USPSA Classifier.
We start setting things up around 5:00-5:15.
Shooting starts no later than 7:00 so get there NO LATER than 6:30. We usually finish up by 9:15, sometimes shorter or longer depending on how many shooters we have.
You do **NOT** have to be a member of DCF or a USPSA/IPSC member to compete in these matches.
New shooters must have gone through the Eastern Colorado "New to IPSC" class. We offer this class at DCF, by reservation/appointment only. You MUST call the range, 719-597-3456 and get on the list. However, if you have completed a IPSC/USPSA, 3-gun or an ICORE match, this class is not required. This class is a Section Requirement and a DCF requirement.
Contact me here with any questions you might have.
To get results or get on the signup email list, send an email to wpgcresults (AT) gmail (DOT) com and I will add you to the list. Results are also avail at www.uspsa.org under local match results.
do i need to be a memeber of the club to shoot? do i need to take the safety class? what else should i bring?
You do *not* need to be a WPGC Club Member to shoot in these matches.
The "New to IPSC" class is mandatory statewide unless you have completed an IPSC/USPSA, 3-Gun or ICORE match in the past.
IPSC/USPSA, ICORE, 3-gun and IDPA are pretty different from most types of matches as we run around with loaded guns, shoot while moving, reload while moving, all while under time restraints. Hence the rationale behind the class.
The IDPA new shooter class no longer complies with the Eastern Colorado USPSA safety requirements. So IDPA Shooters will need this class before their first match.
I cant remember how much the class costs ($25-30 comes to mind) but you can call the range, 719-597-3456, and get signed up. As a bonus, your first match is free.

Cha-Lee touched me in an inappropriate manner. I then returned the favor. I think he thought we shared a moment.
We did not.

You are a delicate flower, as am I.
Charlie and I were commenting on how tiny and precious you looked while gaming the crap out of the 'reverse triangle' stage.... really I was just upset that I didn't do it first.

"tiny and precious"?? That wasn't exactly what I heard[ROFL1]
I am thinking about shooting this tomorrow and I just wanted to clarify. I have shot quite a bit of 3 gun, as well as one or two IDPA and steel challenge matches, so I don't need to take the course right? I'm also an USPSA member.

You are good. If you have completed an IPSC/USPSA, ICORE or 3-gun match you are good to go. The class is required for new shooters. It is not just a Whistling Pines requirement, it is a USPSA Sectional requirement.
Here it is. From now on you can only attend the match if you sign up and pay in advance at https://res.whistlingpinesgunclub.com/ClubCalendar.aspx
You will need to create an account to sign up for the matches.
On a match night, there are two matches scheduled. One is a basic match that anyone can sign up for, it has 25 slots. The second is an RO match. The RO match has 5 slots. If you are not a certified USPSA/IPSC Range Officer and willing to assist, do *NOT* sign up for this.
If you do not sign up *and* pay in advance, you do not have a slot in the match.
If you sign up and don't show, no refunds. Sorry, but that is the way it is. If these matches become a thorn in the side of our WPGC staff, they could go away.

Any plans to do any kind of limited walk-in slotting later? I've shot a bunch with you guys in the past and enjoy it, but have been too busy to shoot until this month. But with the way my work schedule was, and how I bet my next one will be, It's hard to get out of work early to get there in time. It's also pretty impossible to know ahead of time if I'll be made to stay at work late.

I'm sure Hoser won't mind if I take this one. No walk-ins. The purpose of signing up online is to limit the amount of shooters so the staff is not there til 11:00 pm finishing up and cleaning up the mess. Most of us have to be to work the next morning too. From the score persons stand point it also helps to streamline the registration process along with alleviating the headaches and extra work created by walk-ins.
I think it went very well last night. I'd be happy to run a Nook provided there is some training up front.
The pre-registration allowed early squad builds and Nook setup. Win-win in my book.
Running the Nook is super simple. I have seen many shooters pick one up for the first time and after inputting scores for a couple of shooters with a little bit of guidance from another they are fully confident with doing the task on their own. The Practiscore software on the Nook is build in a way that makes it hard so screw stuff up and the interface is very user friendly.

So what about ro'ing. Do I even need classes or something?

Yes. It is a 2 day class and you must be a USPSA member to attend.
WiseAsset is 100% correct. No walk ins.
The whole signing up ahead of time is a new policy. If it turns out that it is not working out, my match staff, the range owner and I will sit down and try to figure something else out.
Please try to understand that your match staff are volunteers and have jobs outside this match.
Fun match last night.
People are finally starting to understand the online signup process.
Thanks to everyone that came early to help with set up and those that stayed till the end to help tear down. We could not and would not do it without your help.
I found footage of some chump making brass in a hurry at the match last night ...... [UZI]

Shit. Didn't realize there was a capacity limit on this. Its showing as full online. I guess its pointless in showing up and hoping I'd get to shoot?

Yeah. When its full, its full.
Being a night match we have to be done, cleaned up and out the door by 9:30-10:00.
If we have more than 30 or so shooters, it gets late and the range owner gets grumpy with me.

I had a great time tonight. It was fun to round out the bottom of the pack again!
Good times Monday night. Thanks to everyone that shows up early, stays late, helps out and just plain ol shows up to make these matches happen.
Remember, no November match.
Hoping to start up again 01 June.
Remember that this Monday is a Federal Holiday and that means no match.
Last nights results.
Thanks for the help with everything last night. Everything from setting up to tearing down. It takes people helping out.
