A sad day! But oh what a life he lived [Beer]
I think it was having his Tour titles stripped from him that pushed him over the edge.
Too soon?
Godspeed LT. Armstrong. Now you will get to fly as much as you want and people will stop asking you stupid questions.

"I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before the decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth," - Thank you Neil Armstrong, rest in peace.
[Salute] Thank you for being an American Hero! RIP
A true stud by all definitions of the word. [Salute]
I'm probably older than most on this forum, so I remember as a kid being glued to the TV and watching shitty grainey black & white coverage of him step off the ladder of the lunar module... "I'm going to step off the LEM now... That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
The Mars landing was cool as was the shuttle but to me a human on on the moon, was just vastly more thrilling.

Like Robb, I watched all of that stuff live as it happened. Especially intense as I was living on an AFB at the time. I had the models... the maps... the flight plans... THE WORKS.
As for me, you can just forget all of that 'One Small Step' stuff. After holding my breath for what seemed to be a freakin' eternity, fearing that they had most certainly expended all of their fuel in seeking a good landing site, when I heard a familiar voice over the static pronounce, "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed." THAT was when I knew that a man... an American... Neil Armstrong... had truly reached the moon. Refusing to be "spam in a can" and not following the NASA script but still getting the job done... my kinda' guy.
Still can't quote it without getting a bit choked up.
May God Hold & Keep You, Neil Armstrong.

okay, I laughed.
July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong made his "small step". Today, he made his giant leap.
Rest well Neil. You've been an inspiration to countless millions of mankind, particularly Americans!

Yup! Everything in school stopped and we gathered around the TV to watch (more like listen cuz it was hard to see, no big-screen plasmas then!)
I had a few acquaintances that had grown up with the Commander, and they all attest to the quality of his character! They said he'd love to "buzz over" the town when he happened to be flying 'nearby'! Where have guys like this all gone to?
