Just out of curiosity with FORM process

What do you all think?

Having to already go through the FORM 1 & 4 process once or twice (or many more times).. do the examiners

1) actually go through the whole process of entering your whole information from scratch into their system of files (paper and computer) like it was your first time?

or

2) do they punch in your name onto a program, pull out your file of NFA item(s) and just enter in the item you are trying to register for yourself?

I'm thinking #2... so many people applying for many nice NFA items out there that there are rows and rows of paper files (if not miles of this sh*t) that actually takes up a lot of the process time.

Do you guys track your mail when you send out you FORM(s) to see when it's received and then monitor the sh*t out of your bank account to see when the BATFE cashes it?

I did... and though this is my 3rd one that I've sent out. I'm really surprised how fast the check got cashed. My first FORM and check that I sent out in February didn't get cashed till damn near 2 weeks have pass. This latest one... the BATFE didn't waste no time at all... The day after receiving my packet my check was cashed the next morning...:Cool:

It probably doesn't matter much, but what was the quickest or longest wait time for the BATFE to cash your check?

The address where you send your check and forms really isn't the ATF, it's a check cashing clearing house. They cash your check and then forward the forms onto the ATF office. So the delay is between check cashing and when your forms go pending.

Because that site specializes in cashing checks, I'm not surprised that it doesn't take long for your check to clear. Last time I did this (two 4s, sent June 1st), my check cleared the day after it arrived as well.

It's the pending date that matters, that's when the clock starts.

Ps. The last time I did this before that Jun 1st date was back in the 80s. Form 4s took maybe a month, month and a half. And I thought THAT was a ridiculously long time!

Shortest time was 6 weeks. longest was the AOW which after 5 months i stopped counting.

The check and form go to a separate addy also to make sure well......., realistically it is a screening place. You never know who is sending what to any .gov agency.

.. it's just amazing with the thought of'em having millions and millions of dollars worth of Tax Stamps it'd be logical to actually process these FORM's so much quicker and to actually encourage the lawful citizens to keep buying NFA items and keep sending them FORM's... and then walking to the bank with a huge as smile on their faces... cause of a $200 piece of paper.

Was it always $200 for a tax stamp?

To answer a few questions. 1. yes, it has always been 200$. Not so bad now, not worth it in 1934. Be glad it isn't adjusted for inflation(yet). 2. Your check is cashed by a bank, not the ATF. When your check is cashed has nothing to do with your wait time. 3. One stamp or a hundred, the process is the same.Not only do the check you out, but they also check the legal status of the weapon (transferable, postie, DD, ect.) 4.From the time you send in the paperwork, find something else to do for AT LEAST 4-5 months.

Now that's some interesting stuff right there... so is this right, since 1934 it cost $200 as well and hasn't changed since? Holy sh*t....!

I'm finally getting that impression... I just wondered what took'em so long to cash my check back in February compared to this months checks[Dunno]
