Individuals repeatedly diagnosed with cannabis dependence during young adulthood had noticeable declines in IQ scores by age 38, especially when the heavy use started in their teens, researchers said.

A small to medium decline in mean IQ between tests taken on the eve of adolescence and again at age 38 was seen in those diagnosed at least three times with cannabis dependence, according to Madeline Meier, PhD, of Duke University, and colleagues, who reported on data from 1,037 participants in a New Zealand birth cohort.

Cannibus dependance? CANNIBUS DEPENDANCE?

The pro pot groups keep claiming that there is no cannibus dependancies. That as you cannot get addicted to it it cannot be a gateway drug.

...Yah, I knew it was a bunch of garbage but I still find it amusing what the drug dependant will come up with in their pot clouded little minds. :)

It's New Zealand...the standards are different down there.

I submit myself as proof that your theory is incorrect. I've been eating Funyuns like a fiend since my younger years when I would walk down to the Benjamin Franklin (grocery story) in Mitchell, Nebraska to spend my allowance on comic books, Mountain Dew and Funyuns. Heck, I just had some Funyuns last night as further proof of my prolonged fascination with the oniony (word?) air puffed snack. Never smoked a doobey in my life and my intelligence levels are possibly above-adequate and show no signs of declining as I rapidly approach the target age of 38 years old. Don't blame Funyuns or people will start calling for restrictions and finally all out bans. [Tooth]

I find it hilarious when pot heads say that cannabis is not addictive. Perhaps not chemically like tobacco, but alcohol is a non-addictive (in terms of chemically speaking) substance, but you still have people who have developed a psychological dependency. So pot is not addictive huh? Ask any pot head to give it up for a month. I'll bet that they can't make it 2 weeks.

I love when they try to say that smoking marijuana is not bad for your lungs either. [Coffee]

But its for "Medicinal Purposes"[ROFL2]

Much in the same ways doctors should start prescribing Four Loko to 'take the edge off' of some people while allowing the energy to continue with their work day.

A hardcore alcoholic going cold turkey can die from stopping suddenly, which makes the psychological argument a tad tenuous at best.

Alcoholism is the ONLY drug addiction that a human can die from the withdrawal alone despite urban legend. Some will claim that heroin withdrawal can also kill yet it's the drug used to help lessen the effects that has been proven to cause death, not the heroin withdrawal itself. To clarify on the topic of alcohol withdrawal death, the deadly factor is that the brain adjusts for a slowed heart rate due to the depressant nature of the alcohol which taken in extreme amounts can require a lot of hormone dump to keep the heart pumping enough to sustain life. If this is done for long enough the body will adjust this to a near permanent state to where if someone quits cold turkey this amount of hormone present suddenly spikes the heart activity and can lead to heart attack and death.

Funyuns can NOT mirror this condition despite what the anti-Funyun propagandists like hghclsswhitetrsh will try to convince you.

Eh, yes, but not chemically- that is the body adapting to the heavy intake of alcohol into the system, and it's a physical dependency instead of a chemical one like say nicotine or amphetamine. But that aside, those who are not at risk of heavy withdraw symptoms that can be fatal, the "minor league" alcoholics, have more of a psychological addiction- like that whole "Can't take this meeting without a sip of whiskey" or "I can't start the day with out bourbon in my coffee."
