I'm just curious..
I weighed mine today..
just under 8lbs unloaded.
a PMAG with 30 rnds of Federal weighs 1lb 1.5oz (according to my scale)
and my optic weighs 1lb 3oz.
Grand weight in at 10lbs 4.5oz loaded with sighting system on it.

5.6 unless you're on the receiving end, then it tops out @ 62gr.

Betcha it feels like more than that.
Mine- being made by POF (not known for being light) comes in around 9lbs empty with my EOTech. I don't mind though, I love it! Or in the words of Boris the Blade/Bullet Dodger: "Heavy is good, heavy is reliable, if it does not work, you can just beat them to death with it." :D

Anybody have actual weights?? Im curious to see where I sit among the realms...
I dont have a bunch of "cool guy" shit on it..Just the essentials, and plan to go to a slightly lighter optic here soon...Aimpoint H-1.
So I'm hoping to stay 10lbs or under at full operational weight.
Given...I'll probably throw a surefire on a weapon mount...but...I can shoot for 10lbs.
Mine weighs enough to sink to the bottom of a lake in a terrible boating accident.
15 lbs at least the 20 inch shillen is a fat kid but it is a precision rifle setup
About the same as a duck... Its a witch!

I think you should weigh each piece, record and total up the weights, and then see if it matches the fully accessorized weight. :D
I'll run down and weight mine for you right now. Be right back...
Mine is almost 9 exactly (empty). Just as pictured here, but without the mag.

You asked i replied. I can weigh it,again, take and post a picture, if you doubt my answer. OR you could accept the weight i posted
Actually i was less than honest, 5.6, that weight is the wife's AR.
Cav arms lower, stag L/Hand A3 upper & red dot.
It weighs slightly more than version 1 which had Factory BM A2 upper/ .625 bbl , hogue FF Al tube and red dot.
Here's me pride & joy

8.6 loaded. That AA piston system added another 6oz or i would have been 8lbs even. A 30 rd mags adds minimal weight.
My Halo adds another 21oz when attached.
If i shit canned the AFG i'm sure i could bring it down to a more manageable weight for the kids.[LOL]

Geez, mine feels puny at 6 lbs 15 oz empty...[Tooth]
Of course, I don't have any optics/rails/lights/fish finders/GPS/Hot tub/wine cellar/other tacticool stuff on it...yet

I see it is time for the "Ounces Count" thread for Colorado AR-15.
Years ago due to the many configurations of the FAL we did a thread with actual weights of items both FN and aftermarket. If we have enough people with a precision scale that weighs to the gram we might start one.
I am 1300 miles away from mine but I have a feeling that my Izzy A-1 carbine is pretty light. [Flower]

..I weighed my magazine and my optic on a food scale..
But my weapon weight not so accurate...my scale wouldnt pick up my AR alone, so I stood on it, weighed myself, stood on it with AR...subtracted to get weapon weight...so I I could be off up to 0.5lbs on weapon weight..
But yea, it would be cool to get a legit weight thread going :P

If it's too heavy sell or take shit off it. My PC polymer kicks in @ 5 lbs w/optic

Mine weighs 7lb 2oz with no mag but with Comp M4, and 8lb 4oz with with a full Pmag.
Singlestack
depends on which one we are talking. They range from 7-13 lbs.
10.6 with all the tacticrap and a 20-rd GI mag with M855 62gr
9.6 with the light and 3x removed.
Digital Bathroom scale, probably not entirely accurate.

http://s1081.photobucket.com/albums/j345/jreifsch80/photo-9.jpg
Here are a couple of interesting numbers.
A raw forging for an AR/M16 weights 1 pound 9 ounces.
Fully machined, bare aluminum, no finish, it weights 8.2 ounces.
About 67% of the metal is removed.
This is without a trip hole.
For what it's worth.
Too dang much with all the tacticool shit hanging on it.
If it's too heavy, go to the frickin' gym. I like an AR with a little bit of weight to it (just like my girls [Beer]).
Now the POF is a heavy gun for an AR, but they shoot great. It seems the whole "weight" thing with the AR's has gotten to be a beauty shop drama. Pretty sure Rob from Bowers Tactical has everyone beat with the lightest one, but he built it intentionally that way. I care less how heavy/light it is...I want the damn thing to run like a top.
Uhm...which one.....

AR#1 weighs in at 7lb 2oz.
-Basic AR-15 with very little extra. Has a Eotech and front/rear MBUS sights
AR#2 weighs in at 8lb 14oz.
-This AR has an 11" rail, ergo grip, VLTOR stock, and Nikon M-223 on a Larue mount.

My first one weighed 7.18Lbs unloaded, but that was issued by Uncle Sam so it was hard to shave anything off.
Funny thing is, it got hits better @300yd with open sights than all this fancy shit. Of course, my eyes did not suck so much 31 years ago.

8lbs 4ozs when you strap the leupold on top.
One of the 16" stock middy I just built comes in at 6 lbs. 5 oz. It will weigh .000005 oz. less after I shave off the bottom of that damn Spikes BAR rail to make the upper fit on the lower. I'm guessing the heft might go up a bit after I put on a CTR stock.
Come March 4th, all you guys will be getting knocks on your door. Might start thinking about taking the boat out for a spring tune up.....
[LOL]
When it was like this, just shy of 10lbs.
http://i.imgur.com/Yczfl.jpg
Lightest I ever built was 4.5 pounds: Cav Arms lower, OKO red dot, slick side upper, 14.5" barrel with pinned FH and a 10" Carbon fiber handguard.
Match rifles with the 18" Nordic barrel, forged upper and lower, MTAC 1-4 in JP mount and Carbon Fiber HG end up just at 8 pounds.
Night match rifle with the light, laser, optic and suppressor is 9 pounds.

My A-1 izzy with A-1 upper, 16" pencil, fiberlite rear, CAR HG's and a Nodak lower is 6.1 lbs. My lightweight Fal with the heavy stock (DSA) is 6.6 and with the light rear is 6.1lbs. My 300BLK is 7.4 and that is with just a cheap dot on it.
Other than a poly lower I do not see a normal AR being much under 6 lbs. My A-1 that is almost all GI but for an A-1 style lower is right on spec at 7.2 lbs.
Just for giggles I weighed my latest .308 Fal. All steel but with the light components.(type 1) 17.5"barrel, plastic furniture, and it was 8.7lbs. My std Fal 50.0 is 9.2 due to the lighter penguin furniture.

Which one? My current "3-gun" rifle is a heavy bitch, mostly because of the 18" BHW heavy profile barrel and rifle gas system. The 6mmx45 is a little better, still a heavy profile barrel but has a poly lower. The 300Blk is decently light, but is also a medium to heavy profile barrel. When I put the Wilson 16" gun back together it will be lighter, because its a M4 profile barrel.
The lightest AR I have owned was the lightweight rifle I recently sold. It has a pencil barrel and poly lower with a plain m4 stock. Stupid light for a full 16" barrreled rifle.
