The GOP is calling for more gun RIGHTS instead of control (including unlimited capacity on mags):

I like this part the best:

It calls for federal laws "that would expand the exercise of that right by allowing those with state-issued carry permits to carry firearms in any state that issues such permits to its own residents."
But don't get me started on that asshat Dan Gross and what he said. [Bang]

I agree with the position personally, but what is wrong with these idiots?! Don't they actually want to get elected? Why on earth would they risk giving up so many "on the fence" votes by bringing up such a hot-button political topic right now? I agree permit holders should be legally able to carry in any state that issues permits to its citizens, no mag limits, etc, but the logic of putting this out there now is beyond me. This is the worst political event I've ever seen or heard about in my life. It's embarrassing as hell.

I don't really understand what they are trying to say. What limits are currently in place? Isn't it sort of a waste of time to argue against something that doesn't exist?

Yes, pretty much. There are some municipalities that enforce their own "magazine capacity limits" (ie. Denver) but federally, there's no limit as-is. This is bringing up a hot-button item and "sticking it to the left" in a poorly thought out fashion. I truly think there are a lot of independant voters and even some lefties, who are against Obama, but remain adamantly against gun rights. This kind of effort ensures that they won't be voting for Romney, but does little to nothing to increase the already right-leaning voter...It's a bad strategic move in my opinion.

For many politicians, regardless of party affiliation, getting the base all fired up trumps converting new followers. They preach to the choir as they apparently like the sound of applause.
