Me personaly ,I don't like tapcos,by the time I get them fitted for my guns it would have been cheaper just to get euro mags.

But for the money if you can get them to run in your gun there ok-I hear lots of guys using them without any problems in their wasr's.

The tapco 30's in 7.62 and 5.54 work very well. Not had any hands on with the 20's

That's what you say now. Give it 2-3 weeks and you'll be rethinking it.
FWIW: TINFOIL (for some) Hat time. Come 2nd week in Nov. and you wish you had ordered 40 of them.
Hope you have 2-3k of ammo on hand too.

It cost maybe $12 priority mail, flat rate, to have them sent here, no excuse.

Remove floor plate, insert wooden dowel or pop rivet the side of mag where 20 rounds would be to prevent loading more than 20.
Colt did something with the 20 round bodies. The used a metal insert to limit capacity them pop riveted the floor plate so it could not be tampered with.
You have mags, no money, be innovative and think outside the box.

The pop rivet trick is what Cali AK builders do for "10/30" mags or 10 rounders with a 30 round body also it's easy to shorten steel 30's and make 20's out of them. There's a good tutorial on the akforum

Sec. 38-130.-( (http://javascript:void(0))i)
Specific magazine prohibited. It shall be unlawful to carry, store or otherwise possess a magazine which will hold or may be modified to hold twenty-one (21) or more rounds.

I don't think just plugging or something that restricts follower travel would comply with the "or may be modified" part. Shortening the mag body would seem to be ok because you couldn't easily restore it.

Denver's law appears even more strict than California's

Weld a stop in it.
Technicly anything can be modified.I can take a 5rdr and "modify" it and make it a 30.[Coffee]

For grins and whohas I would run it by an ATF agent at the Denver dept. and see what they realy tranlate that as-see if the welded stop and so forth would fly in their eyes.

Modified without the use of tools falls in to this area. The Colt pop rivet AR mags could be changed out to accept the full 20 rounds, once you drilled the rivet and removed the block. However they were approved for sale and use during the 94-04 Dark years, because you could not alter them w/out using tools.
Metal tab going up in to the mag body that limits the capacity then using a rivet to secure the tab to the body OR floor plate is considered a permanent alteration.

I bought a few of the Hungarians when they were on sale @ Centerfire. Awesome mags. They fit snug in a loose magwell FWIW.

I just run 20rds. in a 30rd. mag. Doesn't that constitute a 20rd. mag?[Peep]

jreifsch80
09-27-2012, 13:01
It has to have a block in it to be considered a 20 round mag and not just a 30 rounder with 20 rounds in it
