Those people are a bunch of idiots. [Bang]

The smartest one was the lady that said she didn't know enough about the topic to form an opinion. I can respect that.

Amazing amount of stupidity.

Why is it that some people equate profit to stealing?

I love how both parties let their bases think one thing and then govern the other direction. Corporate profits paid for Obummers election last time.

Lack of education and/or common sense.

Lack of education and/or common sense.

He backs down to only a cap on profits with many of the people, and they agree. I remember learning in high school around 2000 that most Fortune 500 companies only made a profit of 5% or under. I think Ford was in the top five at the time. I don't know what the common profit margins look like now, but I bet he could have convinced most of the people in the video to cap profits at only 25%.

Ah, that makes more sense.

I could hear you cracking your knuckles, getting ready to bust my balls. Couldn't have that now could we?

because if you had a profit you must have ripped someone off. You are supposed to operate on a break even basis :)

I probably read it about 10 times and couldn't figure out what you were trying to say. And then when Rucker made what sounded like an appropriate reply I was even more confused.

A little late for this, but if there was any chance that some of these people would actually read it and learn something, it might be worth buying copies of Thomas Sowell's book, Basic Economics and putting them in the night stand drawer in their hotel rooms. [Flower]

Why is it that some people equate profit to stealing?

Many, many, many, good people (who are otherwise intelligent) overwhelmingly believe that economics is zero sum game. Trying to convince them otherwise, through very simple and basic illustrations, ends up being an exercise in painful futility.

They have been taught by all their public school teachers that corporations are evil - and so by definition everything they do must be abhorrent and unnatural.

For the 2012 Fortune 100, average of 6.8%. For the top ten, 6% even. Company size based on revenue and profits are before dividends. Standard deviation for the 100 is rather high at 7.7%.

If I care to know what's going on with liberals, I'll just re-read Rucker's posts.

(I know, I know...you're not a liberal because you like guns. You're a moderate. Which = a liberal that doesn't take a stand on anything.)

You know, one thing that gets me-when I see a successful person I have no animosity towards them. I respect them for the most part. At times am a touch envious and always wonder: "how can I get to where he is"

But now we see a mentality of "that fatcat bastard, he owes me...."

WTF???

Those are net profits. Gross profits (selling price vs cost of goods sold) would likely give you apoplexy.

I love it when a customer tries to talk me down on price by saying: "But you're still making a profit!"

You're damn right I am. That's why I'm here.

It's the few bad apples that get all of the press that paint corporations and bankers in such a bad light.

Bernie Madoff and the Enron execs got a thousand times more press than Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard ever did.

Peter Schiff is one of the brightest financial minds I've ever heard. He accurately predicted the previous bubbles and recessions. I highly recommend seeing the videos on his website. BTW, he is no "Republican Shill" and is often just as critical of Republican behavior as Democrat - both bringing our country and economy down.
