Hi All,

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my upper and started throwing the idea around of building my own.

Problem is I don't have all the specialized tools to do said upper build and this adds to the cost of doing it myself AND I'm not sure if I'll be building or buying uppers in the future or I may just want to buy the tools piecemeal (as the funds to do so become available) and just continue building my lowers.

With THAT said (and after doing an exhaustive 3 minute search of the forums and Interwebs and finding nothing specific), I was wondering what, roughly, would the cost be to have an experienced gunsmith build an upper for me?

Why build an upper? Long story short...It *seems* I can cut the "wait time" down by purchasing the parts and building it.

Thanks Much!

I have the block and wrench... You can borrow, I bought them with the intention of building my own. But the cost of a complete upper is so reasonably priced now I might jut pick up and upper and add my own free float.

I am building my lower though

Thanks much - I prefer to have a beer or two with someone before I go borrowing equipment from them. [Beer]

Seeing as my job has me out of state 2 to 3 weeks out of the month (presently in Richmond, VA working this weekends nascar nationwide and sprint cup events) and we're not the closest of neighbors...well....the drinking of those SPECIFIC beers may take just a bit of time. :)

I'm in a similar situation.. building my first upper from parts. I have a wrench, but the only thing I really need is an action block. If I end up buying one, I'll shoot you a message, since we live fairly close (when you're in town anyway).

Greatly appreciate it! [Beer]

Obviously it depends what kind of upper you are putting together but it is almost cheaper to just buy one already assembled these days.

I have all of the tools necessary to put my own uppers together and I have done so many times. I was pricing components to put my latest upper together and just couldn't do it for the price of a complete upper.

I just ended up ordering one complete to save a little money.

Good luck. [Awesom]
