Apple was granted a patent last week that will enable it to wirelessly disable the camera on iphones in certain locations, sparking fears that such techniques could be used to prevent citizens from communicating with each other or taking video during protests or events such as political conventions and gatherings

I have location services turned off on mine almost entirely. If that's turned off before you physically move, it should prevent this, but then again, if you're connected to a cell tower at all, it could triangulate your position.... so more than likely you have to turn location services off, then go in to airplane mode, BEFORE you arrive at the "controlled location".... but knowing Apple, they've got some other way up their sleeves too.

Jailbreak the iPhone. Disable "apple kill switch ". That should solve the problem. Also you could simply turn off location services.

I see this more as a way to get money for Apple.
Hey you secure business (any R&D lab), pay us $1k/year and phone cameras will be disabled in your office. the phones will still work as phones so you wont have to hold them for your guests and they'll never know.

Govt is more likely to shut down cell service completely than to disable cameras.
