Am I ready for a IDPA Match?

As far as equipment goes? You could get by with what you have once you get the mag carrier, barely. You're really going to want a third mag and a carrier for it. Most stages only require two magazines, but you really want that third if you have a malfunction and need to ditch a mag.

10rd mags are fine, as that is the division capacity for SSP which you would be shooting. You'll want to come up with a way to efficiently load a round in the chamber and then top off the magazine so that you're loaded to 10+1. Have a loose round in your pocket, load the mag, send the slide forward, press-check, holster, eject mag, put loose round in mag, reinsert mag, wait for beep! That's what I would do if I only had 10rd mags. If you buy another mag anyway, and a high-cap version is available, I would just buy one of those to start the stage (load 11 in the first mag, but don't forget to start with the correct one) and put the 10 rounders on the belt.

Get out there soon! You don't know what you're missing. It's a lot of fun.

All the above.

Get a larger mag for your third, i know they make em. The. You can have your 11rd starting mag and 2 10rd mags for the class maximum.

Then, just get your butt out there. So much fun.

Spot on! Definitely need the spare mag holder (2 mags) and a 3rd mag would definitely be better.

Thanks for all the advice! I will order a hi cap mag, I plan to make the October match so I should have enough time to get all my stuff in order. I printed the IDPA rule book and have read thru it once; I plan to read it again (and again)..

So I was reading thru the rules for SSP

2. Stock Service Pistol Division (SSP)

Should division

capacity not be achievable because of lower magazine
capacity, load to maximum mechanical capacity of magazine
plus one (1) round in the chamber. Competitors must use the
same capacity magazines through out the competition
20
(Example: if you start with a 9 round magazine, you must use
that capacity magazine throughout the match).

So can I use two 10 round mags and one 15 round mag?

Yes. Just make sure they are all Loaded to 10 rds, except for the starting chambered round.

Good, you need 3 magazines. It would also help to have a dual magazine holder/carrier/pouch, but you could keep the extra magazines in your pocket until you get the pouches.

Without looking it up, can you name IDPA's 4 rules of gun safety?

You other guys.........HUSH. LOL

Snowman78

1st. treat all guns as if they are loaded
2nd. Never point a gun at anything you do not want to destroy
3rd. Finger off the trigger
4h. Know your target and what is behind it.

I think thats them.

I have also ordered a dual mag pouch.

I have been reading a lot about the matches and watching youtube videos. I am a little worried that my skills may not be up to par....

Just be safe. Dont worry about anything else.

Finger off the trigger and dont break the 180.

Just realize that while some guys literally blaze through the stage and look good, you'll be surprised to hear the number count as they tally up all the time-additions for missed shots/dead hostages etc. If you can hit a 16" pizza pie at 15 yards, you'll do just fine.

Now I should have all the gear I need. I got my new 15 rd mag and a new double mag pouch today.

With all your reading and preparation, you will do fine. Just relax, listen to the breifings and the SOs and be a great student the first match...it ain't a final!

I was also in Bay 2 at the start, I had the 1911 and brown-beanie hat. Someone named Nick was interested in the M&P Shield that I have and I offered to meet him at a range so he could try it out. Never did exchange emails!

I had a great time, there were about half the people as September so things went much quicker. Wow did it get cold about halfway through though. Can't wait for november, fingers crossed it's not cancelled!

Ha, ha that was me. After the match you were working with your shotgun and I did not want to bug you. I believe your name is Matt (Mathew) . I would love to try out the shield sometime. I will pm you my E-mail address

FYI - there was equipment that came up missing at the end of the day.

1 shot timer
3 red staple guns
"Beware of Zombies" police tape.

If anyone knows of their location, please post or contact Mick.

Would not be the first time things were put in the wrong box or accidentally taken home in the range bag (guilty myself of leaving a shot timer on my belt just to find it when I got home).

That would suck really bad if someone thought "oh hey cool I need a staple gun" and took it home. If FRIDPA doesn't get their stuff back (I'm going to assume that it simply got put back somewhere weird in the shed) then I can buy a staple gun or two to help replace.
