Samsung pays Apple $1 Billion sending 30 trucks full of 5 cent coins

This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially, the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.
The funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best.
This dirty but genius geek troll play is a new headache to Apple executives as they will need to put in long hours counting all that money, to check if it is all there and to try to deposit it crossing fingers to hope a bank will accept all the coins.
Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, told the media that his company is not going to be intimidated by a group of “geeks with style” and that if they want to play dirty, they also know how to do it.
You can use your coins to buy refreshments at the little machine for life or melt the coins to make computers, that’s not my problem, I already paid them and fulfilled the law. A total of 20 billion coins, delivery hope to finish this week. There is only one way to sum this story up CLASSIC!

I've thought about paying my HoA fees in Pennies.
Bet it's a myth. That many nickels would take way more than 30 trucks

I think that was just the first 30 trucks, as it said they hope to finish sometime this week...
I'm calling BS. In anycase even if its real It was Samsungs fault, Apple even tried to sell the damn patent to them bfore all of this but they didn't do it. So instead they lose in court and end up spending more than it would have cost to buy the patents, Samsungs board have to be the dumbest in the market.

Patent wars are quite harmful and patents themselves are very easily abused.
The system needs a dramatic overhaul. Patent suits are common as can be these days, and some of the things people patent are the equivalent of patenting a chair.
Not like a specific chair, but anything that can be used as a chair.
Obviously not true. $1B in nickels would weigh roughly 220,000,000 pounds (a nickel is exactly 5 grams), which would take approximately 1,667 full sized semi trailers to haul (assuming 80,000 GVW, 60,000 cargo).
I still think Samsung should do this [ROFL1]

I heard this rumor as well: You can't buy nickels in bulk because their melt value is higher than their face value.
A little research shows this to be false, but still interesting I think. While not true currently, it could someday be the case that the melt value of a nickel is higher than the face value.
Each nickel contains exactly 1.25 grams of actual nickel.
Current market price of Nickel: $7.6761/lb
If $1B in nickels truly does weight 220,000,000 lbs as TFOGGER says, Samsung would have sent Apple approximately $422,185,500 in melt value nickel.
Leave it to Snopes to debunk the ridiculous.
Still, it would have been awesome had it been true...

But a nickel is only 25% Nickel the other 75% is Copper...so add that to your melt value math equation.
But a nickel is only 25% Nickel the other 75% is Copper...so add that to your melt value math equation.
Actual weight of all nickels would be 220,462,442.01837 lbs.
75% of that is 165,346,831.51377 lbs.
165,346,831.51377 X Copper spot price of $3.7962 per pound
Total of $627,689,641.79257 in copper value
Total of $439,502,901.2857 in actual nickel value (spot up to $7.9742 today)
So $1Billion in nickels would have a scrap value of $1,067,192,543.0782 at spot prices.

Thanks BUC303 for adding the copper :)

To add to this: This patent BS lead by Apple is hurting ingenuity & advancement which is the exact OPPOSITE reason it was instituted to begin with. Leave it to Apple to find a way to slow our technological advancement as a society and turn it into their own financial gain all while convincing gullible people they are squeaky clean as a corporation and can do no wrong. Produce a better product at a reasonable price? Why do that when you can patent everything you had no hand in and then sue your competition who ARE producing better products at reasonable prices into the stone age.
People ask why I hate Apple so much are usually the same people who think it's a simple phone debate and can barely figure out how to power their phone on.
Thanks BUC303 for adding the copper :)
Its amazing what can be accomplished with math and boredom [ROFL1][Beer]
