I knew we gave a lot of $ to foreign nations but didn't realize it was that much. Way too much $ to our enemies!

Almost $53,000,000,000 sent overseas in FY2010. Meanwhile, we are borrowing $0.43 of every $1.00 we spend.
I had low blood pressure when I got up this morning, thanks for getting it going. [Beer]

The stupid part is you see how many lawmakers defending these kind of spending by saying cutting $50 billion is not going to stop $1 trillion in deficit. They said the same thing about NPR, bridge to nowhere, etc.

Drop in the bucket.
SS, medicare/medicaid, and welfare constituted 2.16 trillion dollars in 2011.
Yeah, foreign aid is dumb, but if we got rid of it, it would have no noticeable effect on any of our real problems, so it's kind of down there on the list of things I get worked up about.

Here's a picture of how it fits in to the big bad budget picture. If the thought of foreign aid raises blood pressure this could stroke you out.

Look at the list, 2nd on it is Pakistan... You'd think all that aid $ would buy a location for OBL BEFORE May '11... [Mad]

SS, medicare, and medicaid would not be a part of the problem if those programs had not been raped over the years by politicians who thought they were just a piggy bank for them to play with. Those are not entitlement programs; they were/are paid into by all of us.

They would just be a problem further down the road.
Yeah, politicians on both sides of the aisle just used SS as a general fund tax, same for medicare/aid, but that doesn't change the fact that the systems themselves are unsustainable. It just meant our children would have to deal with it instead of us, which, well, okay? I guess that's better in the sense that I wouldn't have to get all pissed off over it. But it doesn't change the core problem of promising more than you can possibly pay in the long run.

I was thinking more along the lines of how much money we spent in the places we are getting firebombed right now.

the problem now, and over the last few decades, is that more people are drawing out of it and at a higher rate than we can supply.

$3.1 Trillion on Iraq/Afghanistan wars was insanity. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and Republican President George W. Bush changed the "theme" to "regime change" when NO WMD's were found. This year we are running a 16 trillion $ deficit? This fiscal policy will destroy the US. And yes the 3.1 trillion dollars was to "aid" these foreign countries...

I agree... Giving money to people that don't like us isn't a big deal...
So I will need each of you to send me $50 a year... should equal less than 1% of your annual gross... not a big deal, right?
