Walmart refuses to sell shotgun to woman, says it's 'Too much gun'
Editorial Article Gun Laws, Self Defense - 09.13.2012
Story by: Max Slowik
Shooting as a pastime is getting more and more popular every day. Gun sales are up, more people than ever before are getting their concealed-carry permits and as a whole, guns are becoming mainstream. This is especially true with women, who are leading the curve as the fastest-growing segment of the market. But we still get reports of stories like this one, about Prayse Dangler, who was prohibited to buy a shotgun by her local Walmart staff—because a Mossberg 930 was too much gun for a woman. So liberals want women to have the ability to terminate a pregnancy at any point, for any reason, in whatever circumstances because it is "protecting their rights and health" but don't want them to have the ability to protect themselves physically from intruders?
Huh...
Uh is Wal-Mart the Liberals? This makes no sense. Or are you talking about the Wal-mart employee behing the gun counter?
Isn't wal mart the shinning example of capitalism at it's finest? Pretty soon wal mart will have abortions on roll back or a 2 for 1 special.

As a former dealer I can see the issue of a potential straw-purchaser. That's a valid reason to question someone. I think they should've just been upfront about it, though. It's pretty common for women to buy for a prohibited husband/boyfriend. And it's also pretty easy to figure out if it's legitimately for the woman with a few questions. But if someone says the gun is actually for them and there's no real reason to doubt the story, sell it.
Straw purchase makes sense. One of those stories where it would have been easier to tell the truth than to make up a lie about the gun being too big for the woman. They must be hiring liberal politicians at wal mart.

He clearly hasn't seen my tiny, petit wife shoot trap and skeet. I wish I could shoot as well as she does.
Wal-Mart is certainly NOT run by liberals.

This is not WalMart.. it was a jerk associate. Walmart does not train their people this way. I think it was just an ass dude that didnt think a little lady should buy a gun. My wife has worked for Walmart for almost 20 years now. They get alot of flack that should be geared towards the offending people/person. I am sure this person was relived of his duties at Walmart after this. Walmart wants to make money... he cost them this sale.. thats the bottom line. Can't fix stupid.

How did abortion find its way into this?
Wow... Just wow.
Political considerations for the learned American:
Unless the govt intervenes...
Everyone will kill each other with guns and all babies will be aborted for no reason
I don't understand why anyone is surprised by anything a Walmart employee does. Walmart pays people minimum wage and most all are part time employees that they do not provide health insurance to.
The type of people who are willing to work part time for minimum wage and no health insurance are the type of people you encounter when shopping at Walmart. There is a simple solution to the Walmart customer service (or lack thereof) issue. DONT SHOP AT WALMART! Walmart is evil and the only way their evil empire will ever be destroyed is if people stop buying their cheap shit.

As Bailey said, it's pretty easy to see where the employee thought it was a straw purchase.

I shop at walmart because I don't have a choice. I live in a town of 30k people, and walmart is the only grocery store here. If I wanted to drive 1.5hrs to las cruces or 2hrs to el paso, tx, I could. Our one gun store in town knows they're the only store and they rip people off. A Remington 870 Express Synthetic at walmart is $339. At the gun shop, its about $550. Granted, I have access to an FFL that has a low transfer fee, sometimes you just want to drive down the street and come home with a shiny new gun that same day. I have bought 1 gun from walmart and it was very easy and the sales associate was awesome.

Courtesy Pawn in Carlsbad has decent prices, a decent selection and decent customer service.

Carlsbad is 3.5hrs from me. Add another 30min to that time and I could make it to Albuquerque.
Not hijacking, just showing that not everyone has the option of NOT shopping at walmart. I hate it with a passion, but I like eating more.

Wal-Mart is not evil. Wal-Mart is a corporation in business to make money. No one is forced to work there nor shop there. It's called freedom of choice.
Wal-Mart institutes policies designed to enhance the bottom line of the company. This is known as capitalism and it's how our country operates. And apparently they're doing something right.
I find it incredibly naive and ignorant when people say "Wal-Mart is evil" because they employ many people who might not otherwise be employed and offer inexpensive products at inexpensive prices.
If you don't want to support Wal-Mart, fine. But the company isn't evil just because you disagree with their business practices.
I despise HK's business practices. But I don't think HK is evil. I just choose not to buy their products even though they make some excellent guns.

walmart is certainly not evil, but they do get whats coming to them with the kind of customers they attract. if you want everything to be the cheapest, most bottom line, thats fine as its good to have variety in this country, but it attracts the worst customers on the planet. when i go to walmart, which isn't often, its not so much the workers, although they can sometimes be idiots, but its more the customers that make me hate it.

Wal-Mart's not evil. Liberals hate Wal-Mart because they don't agree with Wal-Mart values and make fun of many of the poor and lower middle class people who shop there. Many private businesses don't like Wal-Mart because they can't compete at Wal-Mart prices. However, smart businesses find ways to compete on various forms of service that Wal-Mart can't/won't provide. Wal Mart is one of the most successful US companies and has a very, very good business mdel.

I don't know about this situation, but I have refused to sell a knife to someone even though they were old enough to purchase it. He was mentally handicapped and was not showing an intelligence level higher than a 6th or 7th grader.
BTW, three people on the run from TX after shooting a cop got caught in Pueblo after attempting and being refused AK ammo at a Wal-mart just last summer if I remember correct. They recognized them and called the cops while at the sporting goods counter and the cops bagged them on the way out of the store.
Regardless of the slant of the article, sometimes it's about the common sense of the situation. For all we know, there was more to this situation and the guy behind the counter said what he said instead of confronting them about a possible straw-purchase. Guns, ammo, knives... all right there at the counter. Sometimes BS is better than the truth.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart very often, mainly because I'm usually buying higher end stuff than they carry, but I have had no issues with the company or most sales associates I've found there. Almost all the guys and gals working in sporting goods at the Briargate, Falcon and Woodland Park stores have been quite cool.
