All the ammo in the world won't do you any good if you can't take it with you in an emergency. I found a way for me to grab one handle and off I go. If I have more time, I'll grab individual cans with dedicated calibers, but if I need to go as light as possible, as soon as possible, I go with this:

(1) .50 cal can with (3) multi-compartment trays. Load it up with your different caliber handgun, shotgun and long gun ammo and it's ready to roll. It won't hold enough to defend against the entire zombie horde, but it will get you started.

* I'd like to share this little tip with the non-Co-Op crowd as well, so will also be posting it in the regular survival section. If this violates any rules, Mods, please feel free to delete it there.

Nice setup Buck!!
Beats just thowing mags in a grab bag by far.
Being that it has an airtight seal it would be a good thing to just keep one in the vehicle.

Now put that can in a bag so you don't tie up one of your hands carrying it.

Obviously load it up with whatever you need. I took those photos with all kinds of different ammo just to show the versatility. My current trays from bottom to top are:

#3: All NATO 5.56mm including XM193, M855, and some tracer M196.
#2: All 7.62x39mm TulAmmo 122gr. FMJ.
#1: Mixed .45 Auto 230gr. FMJ, .45 Auto 230gr. JHP, .38 SP+P 125gr. JHP, and yes, 12GA Aguila Mini's, Federal 1oz. Rifled Slugs, and Federal 00 Buck for my Maverick 88 Cruiser.

I tried to keep it stable with the heaviest tray at the bottom and stacking lighter ones on top of it, but the #1 tray needed the extra room at the top for vertical storage of the 2 3/4" 12GA. shells. That tray weighed in the most at 10.5 lbs.

There is room for it in the bottom of my BOB, so that is an option. Out of the bag however, and I can have a family member or friend carry it so I can move quicker while keeping one of my long guns or shotty at the ready. Another option is just keeping it in the back of my BOV, ready to roll.

I would suggest the reusable Pelican Dessicant pack. Relatively cheap and reusable. Kinda handy to see if you happen to have a leak in an ammo can. with a yearly inspection you can see the indicator turn to whatever color indicates a need for recharge. (250 in the oven for 2 hours)

I also have an undisclosed amount of .50 cal boxes with already loaded mags for various Bug Out Weapons like the AR, Saiga, AR-7, and 10/22's.

just something to think about. The boxes of already loaded mags are the boxes that I would grab first. Boxes of "various ammo" or boxed up extra ammo would be lower on the "SHTF, load up the bug out trailer" list of goods.
