Getting ready for the end-of-the-year travel circuit, and trying to figure out if I need to arrange an FFL transfer for long arms purchased in a non-contiguous state.
Thanks!

You can buy long guns direct from FFLs in any state, but handguns or from non licensees only in your own state. Contiguous states went away in 1986 and never applied to private nonFFL sales. Any thing but long guns from FFLs will need to transfer in through a Colorado FFL.

My understanding is that you still have to abide by state law. Florida only repealed it's contiguous language this year. Everything I have been able to find quickly (NRA-ILA State Summary) indicates Colorado has it's contiguous language still intact. I am glad to hear that may be incorrect. I'd be even happier with statute language.
I'd be looking to buy long guns from FFLs in one or more non-contiguous states. I'm pretty clear on the handgun and private purchase requirements as they relate to interstate transfer.
Thanks for your quick reply.

As long as the long gun is not prohibited in your stare you're gtg.

I've pinned down the statutory language. It's CO Revised Statute 12-27-102 through 104.
Title header is Article 27. Firearms - Purchase in Contiguous States
This is the reference document I am using: ATF Pub 5300 (http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-5/atf-p-5300-5-colorado.pdf)
Anyone know if this has been repealed/revised/rewritten?
Edit: Same reference to contiguous states from NSSF (http://www.nssf.org/factsheets/PDF/ContiguousStateRestrict.pdf).

No where in there does it declare it unlawful to purchase in a non-contiguous state - that which is not declared to be illegal is lawful.
The purpose for that law was the that before 1986 the feds outlawed purchases outside one's state, UNLESS a law like that one was on the books allowing it. The federal restriction went away, so that bit of legalese is just wasted space in the statute book.

If you read carefully what it says in CRS 12-27-102:
(1) It is declared by the general assembly that it is lawful for a resident of this state, otherwise qualified, to purchase or receive delivery of a rifle or shotgun in a state contiguous to this state, subject to the following restrictions and requirements:
(a) The sale must fully comply with the legal conditions of sale in both such contiguous states;
(b) The purchaser and the licensee must have complied, prior to the sale or delivery for sale of the rifle or shotgun, with all of the requirements of section 922 (c) of the federal "Gun Control Act of 1968", applicable to interstate transactions other than at the licensee's business premises.It says it's legal to buy a long gun in contiguous states. It doesn't say anywhere it's illegal to buy one in a non-contiguous state.
