View Full Version : The Disunited States Of America

Sitting here sipping my muscat, late in the evening, and fantasizing. Care to join me?

Perhaps it's time to split the Country into to independent nations: The United Red States of America, and the United Blue States of America. The country is going down the tube, and the Democrats and Republicans have very different ideas on how to fix it. Let's let them each have free reign at giving their ideas a go.

Here's how it will work. Each State gets to vote on which Nation it would like to be a member of. Here's a map of how it generally might break down, by virtue of the 2008 presidential results:

http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/politics/election-outcome.jpg

Note, after Obama's dismal first four years, a couple blues may decide to go Red.

Some of the details:

- After the split, all red states send all Democrat/liberal politicians packing. Blue states do the same with their Republicans/conservatives.

- Once the vote is done, it's done. No second chances down the road. If you vote to be blue, you're a member of the Blue Nation forever more.

- Split the current national debt between the red and blue nations, by a percentage equivalent to the population of each.

- Red nation gets the bulk of the Military. Blue nation doesn't want it anyway.

- People shall not be trapped by the preference of the majority of the people in the state they happen to reside in. They can move. Blue minded folk can move to a blue nation state, and red minded folk to a red state.

- Each nation is free to create it's own individual constitution and bill of rights.

- Wall Street is free to load up it's equipment and people, and move out of New York. But the kids occupying it must stay.

- Blue Nation gets to keep Obama care.

---------

There, I've given you a start on some of the details. Go ahead and fill in some of your own ideas on them.

Go ahead, too, and start structuring how you'd want the nation you'd choose to join to look. What would you want to change in your nation about what is happening in the country now?

How would you structure the constitution of YOUR nation?

If Colorado remained blue, what would you do?

What do you see in your crystal ball, 20 years after the split?

What if we broke it down into 50 separate areas that could govern themselves...

I'm only sipping Stella Artois tonight, but I'll play.

First, where do the Libertarians go? I think I'd rather go with the red States than the blue, given only two options (do with that what you will, you cheeky Republican bastards), but I wonder how long before we have to divide again because I don't agree with you wanting to shoot Californians for trying to cross into Arizona.

Next, I propose that nominees for election to appointed offices of the new national government of the red states (Oooooo that sounds a little McCarthy-esque right there) battle it out in a tournament-style debate, where each county submits its nominee (by democratic election) to debate the nominees from other counties from the State, then the State winners debate on the National stage, etc. until there is one elected official left standing (metaphorically, of course).

Lastly, can we give them everything East and North of Mississippi so we can have Colorado?

I like all your other ideas. We actually had a good thread going on this topic a couple months ago, but it has been archived to the annals of pages which are out of sight, for they are not the first page. [Beer]

What country is the "Azatlan DMZ"?

Demilitarised zone. In other words, keep your cartels south of that line, because if you are in that zone and armed, you may find out what a Predator is capable of.

It get the DMZ part. Azatlan sounds like some where in a C.S. Lewis book.

I could probably get used to the Texas thing, otherwise Alaska is it.

Yeah, it would be great if the Civil War hadn't taken care of that.

America hating Mexicans basically. There were references to it in the "Enemies" trilogy.

I like the ideas that were thrown around in the old thread about this- I personally wouldn't want to move out of Colorado just because Denver and Boulder are liberal... Can't we just deport them and start over? If we ever did divide I would think CO would become a red state- I like the mountains, and don't ever want to leave this state ever again. [Beer]

So do I [ROFL1]*

As for the Azatlan DMZ, I created that because a fence isn't going to be enough.

A wall on the north side of it with snipers and machine gunners ... rows of mines for a couple miles south of the wall.

The big problem with dividing the US into new nations is that the "Blue" states will run themselves into the ground even faster without the "Red" states putting on the brakes here and there ... and who do you think will bail them out? The ChiComs.

So we'll end up with tons of Chinese troops in the Blue states (since the Blues will eventually become a Chinese protectorate) and then when they decide they want to drop the hammer on what is left of the USA we'll be toast.

(*the joke is I made it ... bigger version here (http://www.macvanpublishing.com/mike/PostObamaAmerica.jpg)).

Yeah, we discussed my map a few weeks ago and decided that "New Republic of Texas" was just too Texan and we liked Rocky Mountan Republic better (if I can find the original PSD file of the map I'll change it).

Splitting the US up like that would immediately evolve into a Civil war.

Sometimes war is necessary though. Look at our [first] civil war... it did bring about the end of slavery...

I would argue that it would REQUIRE a civil war to split up the US. So the split up map is the aftermath of a civil war, not the cause.

I think it would "evolve into" a foreign invasion/conquest of the former USA.

United we stand, divide we fall.

(effin' ray of sunshine, ain't I :p )

I've lived in all four corners of the U.S. (The NE, South Florida, top & bottom of the West Coast) and as much as my primary interests & livelihood involve saltwater, I'm pretty happy living in CO. The Federal government isn't keen on adding Puerto Rico, or granting independence to Hawaii so I highly doubt their going to split the mainland in my lifetime. What occurs after I'm in the dirt isn't even slightly my concern.

The two maps hatidua posted make an interesting statement together.

This idea that receipt of government largess automatically means a vote for the "D" may not be true.

They're not mine, just a combination of maps posted by others in this and other threads in this section, I merely found them interesting.

Ummm, DUH. Romney is stupid to have even related those two figures.
