Got into an accident last thursday approx 1530, exiting the off ramp from I-76 & 88th ave. Dual exit lanes (flea market congestion) they put up Lane indicating signs, I got off in the right lane and the sign indicated I could take a left, stright or right and the left lane was Left turn only. The asshat in the left lane decided he was going to take a right and nailed me. I haven't had my clock rung like that since freestyle wrestiling.

CHP and CCPD could not get a car out because they had another emergency situation so we exchanged info and I call my Insurance as soon as I got home approx 1645. They had a rental car (wife is driving) for me by Friday morning and the picked up my commuter car tuesday and yesterday my adjuster called me to tell me that my car was totaled and he had a check waiting for me at the service center. I will get my deductable back once the other asshats insurance accepts liability ($500). So total I got back about 1k more than I paid for my car.

GJ Progressive!

Its nice to have more money but I was truly impressed with the speed and attention my clam has been processed. So back to spending more on gas by using the truck, oh well its almost winter anyway.

Glad it worked out for you- I've heard both good and bad about Progressive (and we represent them)... They're my insurance so I'm now glad I have them. I'm also happy they'll be successful with subrogation, I've heard too many horror stories where the other company refuses to pay for everything. Also glad you were able to get it handled without a police report, because then the other company can contest who is actually at fault. [Beer]

I've had them for probably ten years, and I won't switch. Too many good experiences with them. Even when it hasn't been my fault or their liability, they always work on my behalf.

Did you ever wonder where the name "Progressive" came from?
Any idea who has a huge interest in Progressive?
Peter Lewis, who is one of the largest funders of leftist organizations such as the ACLU and Moveon.org.
Take a wild guess who he is closely tied to and donates a huge amount of money to..........

George Soros.

I dropped them the second I found this out.

^^ this plus most homeowners will not be happy with progressive. Their bundle suck ass. I think they only target apartment dweller or single folks - which typically pay more for their vehicle coverage.

The other company can always contest who is at fault, regardless of a police report. Insurance companies prefer to handle the damages to their insureds, then subrogate for the money back, instead of just letting the other carrier make the repairs. That is why they got you all taken care of so quickly; instead of trying to guide you to the claimant's insurance carrier.

It was taken care of quickly because you went through your own company and had the proper coverage. Have you even spoken with the other guy's company? If the accident happened like you said, and points of impact side with your story, that should be a pretty difficult one for them to dispute.

I hope the other insurance company doesn't play bullshit games. Right before I deployed, my wife was T-boned by some ass-clown. At first, they refused to do anything until they received the police report. Now that they have it (their driver was blamed and ticketed), they are STILL refusing to accept liability! WTF!!

Progressive offered me the same deal as you - pay the deductible and I will get it back. Since our vehicle is still drivable, I am not going to do that. I have been calling the other insurance and they still won't answer their phones. Needless to say, I am a bit pissed.

1) There is no trying to get out of a policy, you just cancel and move on.
2) Every other company will be the same.
3)
Carrying Progressive insurance and getting into an accident does not entitle you to the value of your insurance policy. No shit it doesn't. People are absolutely stupid about insurance.

Police don't get to decide liability. You only get your deductible back IF the other company accepts liability and your company recovers it through subrogation.

He is currently shopping for a different policy. Apparently some agencies don't like to cover what they consider a "farm".

It's not the agency, it is the company. If he hasn't found someone by the end of the day, shoot me a pm and I'll point him in the right direction.

I looked into this some more, and as usual, the general public knows dick about what they are talking about and are throwing a fit over things they are making zero effort to understand.

First, the driver that killed this comedian's sister was insured by, and defended in court by Nationwide.

Second, as I quoted before, of course you aren't entitled to the policy limit just because someone else didn't have enough insurance to cover your damages. The way that UIM (under insured motorist) coverage works is that your UIM coverage will make up the difference between what the other guys was able to pay, and what is left of your damages/injuries. When this kind of situation happens, your insurance company is now saddled with whatever liability the at-fault person had in causing your damages. The company treats it just like they do every other claim, where they will only pay what they feel they are liable for. Just because they now have to pay for the difference, doesn't automatically mean that they are going to stroke you off a check for your full policy limits.

When there is a disagreement about the amount an injury/death is worth, then you basically have to bring suit against your own company. Suing your own company is apparently against the law in Maryland, so they had to sue the at fault driver (why they wouldn't do that in the first place is beyond me).

Progressive probably did try to short this poor dead girl on the settlement amount, and ended up in court over it. Now, they've got a jury full of people looking at pictures of a dead girl, and an attorney hired by the family telling them how bad Progressive is. The jury gets their emotions up and slaps Progressive with some $760,000 for bad faith. Progressive would have ended up paying a lot less money if they had kicked a little more money the family's way in the first place.

Long story short, this comedian is probably pretty upset and ran his mouth about Progressive defending the at-fault driver, when that is not at all what happened.

He may have had Nationwide, and had them represent him in court, but Progressive was also there on his behalf, despite what they said publicly. It would seep pretty strange that they filed this.

When the UIM coverage kicks in, Progressive essentially has to play the part of the at fault party. In that situation, they become both parties. It is a thin line to walk. They should not have put themselves in that position in the first place. See how it says "Interested party" at the top? Because Progressive now has to pay the rest of the liability, they are certainly interested in how much the damages/injuries are going to be.

Progressive treated me very well when I got rear-ended. They had an opening at the service center the next day. I took it in, they took the car around back for an hour, declared it totalled and cut me a check on the spot. Check was about twice what I could have gotten had I sold it pre-accident. And that was after buying the car back from them.

I interviewed to work with Progressive three times - meaning, I got through three hoops for the same job, not three separate jobs. Initial interview, check. Mid level manager interview, check. Mid/High level manager interview, check. I was told they would call me and tell me what's up "either way" if I got the job or not.

I never heard back. I called and emailed all 3 guys I interviewed with a few times. Never heard back. Ever. How "Progressive" is that?

Assholes. I'd never go with these guys. That's just me though. Lost a potential customer for life. Nice job!

Glad you had things work out well for you though.
