Illinois Cops Give Family Ten Minutes Between Delivery of Mysterious Marijuana package and No-Knock Drug Raid. (http://reason.com/blog/2012/09/19/illinois-cops-give-family-ten-minutes-be)

According to the Lake County News-Sun, last Friday a family in the village of Beach Park, Illinois was given a ten minute window between the postal delivery of a mysterious, unsolicited package — said to contain marijuana — and a no-knock drug raid that involved the family tied up, with guns pointed at their faces, while their home was ransacked by police.I'm so glad we're free. What time does Idol come on?

Yeah I figure armed revolt is coming. I act like it already has. Stocking up on the basics. We haven't had a real war in the US since the 1860's. Rule of law and decency are just talk. Eventually a SWAT team will accidently kill a baby with a flashbang or something stupid like that and the whole thing will explode. So whats good on American Idol tonite?

Holy shit! So it seems like a setup? That's why I always double check packages that are delivered, if it's not my address then I'm not accepting. Jacked up! [Mad]

The UPS guy doesn't wait for acceptance in most cases. He drops the packages and runs, often without even ringing the doorbell. I work from home, so I'm always there, but I have to rely on the dogs to let me know someone dropped a package on the doorstep.

Didn't a SWAT guy or two get shot raiding the wrong house a few years back?

I had a neighbor couple houses away from me that was dealing drugs for a while. He would tell his customers a house number a couple houses away from his. He would then run out in the street when the customer showed up. Several of us in the neighborhood had problems because of this. We started a general harassment campaign including the cops to get him to quit dealing. He finally quit dealing when his kid got busted.

The package delivered to the wrong house could have been something like that. A nearby dealer could have been planning picking up the package if no one showed up with a badge.

1) how do we know that the package WASN'T for them?

2) don't know what the warrant was for. I doubt they got the warrant in 10 minutes so they had it before the package was delivered, possibly for another charge(s).

3) everyone that talks to the news is innocent, didn't you know that? It's a fool proof test for determining innocence.

Technically yes... Innocent until proven guilty. That means that the state (city, county, country) must prove beyond a reasonable doubt the individual's guilt, not the individual must prove their innocence.

1) WE don't it could have been ...

2) The shipper may have noticed it was filled with drugs ( dog's or whatever .. hell it just might have smelled like weed) and notified police... hell I've seen this on a episode of COPS. the guy that dropped the package off at the door was not even UPS/FED EX... he was a cop. they had the warrant ready to go before the package even left the station.

Cop got killed in Titusville,Florida when I lived there. No knock raid, kid had a lil weed (misdemeanor) Dad was sleeping and woke up, saw a guy dressed in black shot him under the body armor. Shooter was tried, jury said NOT GUILTY. Below is a link where the only TRUE facts are the cops name...

No info about any of those facts, of course. I think this begs the question: if you're complicit in being mailed a box of reefer, does it really warrant a SWAT team kicking down your door and ranger-cuffing your kids at gunpoint, or is that maybe a bit excessive?

Yeah, yeah. Find me a "news" article from any source that isn't biased.

1> because it says "unsolicited" and it apparently was not in the name of anyone in residence?

Brown says he didn't see the name, or even get a good look at the package which, says his son-in-law had the name "Oscar" and some other last name.

2>The warrant was in his name, but apparently the wrong township? I honestly dont know enough about the current "no knock" policies to comment intelligently

3>Innocent until proven guilty, and there is a matter of respecting civilians and their rights. That entire "Right to Privacy" thing in the Constitution is meant to prevent this exact sort of thing, because the British were doing pretty much the exact sort of thing in the name of the King, which was a large part of why that whole Revolutionary War thing happened. I get that in this day of armed drug dealers and the sophistication some of them are capable of, there is sometimes a need for no-knocks etc., but one would think that there would be a lot of emphasis put on getting it right.

Being a "tin hatter" here for a moment lets look at how similar our circumstances are-

-Taxation and other laws enacted without consent of the people? Yeap, Executive Orders my ass, did not realize we elected a King.
-Random search and seizure- Yeap, and getting larger. I mean it was cool when they were using it to bust drug dealers down in the Glades, but how about when they use no knocks to come in and search residences for "illegal" weapons, stockpiles of ammunition, etc.?
-A militant force with virtually unlimited power to search, detain, and question ANYONE at ANYTIME? Yeap, DHS- Department of Homeland Security and a lot of the rest of the alphabet soup organizations.
