View Full Version : Friendly request for the trading post
I am hoping that you all can help us out when you post something in the TP and then sell it.
When an item is sold, if you would be so kind as to go into your original post and edit it and in the very first line type in **SOLD**(in some way) Traded, Withdrawn, etc. This way if we hover over it we can see the first line says sold(Or whatever).
Then go and make a post in your ad so it bumps it back up and in the last post simply put in Sold, traded, withdrawn...etc. or whatever it may be. This way it brings it back up and then if we hover we can see its sold.
This is not a rule or a requirement by any means, just a friendly request.
Thanks

Could/should this be a sticky or part of the "read & acknowledge" rules?
Or in other words, how do we 'train' everyone?

Do the hover previews update like that? I've seen some that don't match when you click on them.
Still think it's a great idea, just wondering on the hover.
The hover previews update once per hour, with the thread views count, etc.

It would help if the price is in the first line too. Then when sold just add SOLD after the price.
Like this, when listed...
The price is $400
When it is sold...
The price is $400 - SOLD

I'd kinda like to see the prices stay in the original post somewhere.... It helps when others are trying to price their items.

I agree too, let me change that.
I also agree with prices staying, but that is up to you what you do with your ad.
Done... Is it possible to allow thread starters to close their own thread? I visit several forums that allow this, it saves a mod time from requiring them to do it
Vbulletin Version 4.2.0 and 3.6.12 allows this

Leif, I think your way off base here.
It should be a recommendation/rule.
Common courtesy to the mods and members.

Very true. I just don't wanna see it be made a rule to remove me the price. I know a place that does that.

Just in case it become R&R I've already read and acknowledged.
Oh yeah ditto BP's post.
I do this on all forums and I wish more people would. If it's a thread where there is plenty of traffic I will post a new post to it saying sold as well but if it's an older thread that is already several pages back I usually don't bump it so that it stays dead several pages back. Are you saying you would rather we bumped inactive older threads to get them to the top? If that's the case I'll try hard to remember since this isn't something I would normally think to do on forums.

I think they want it bumped so they can see it, change the title, and close it.

Also agreed. I am always curious on what items are selling for so I can compare on here and different stores.

I can see posting a sold in the first line of a for sale thread but, are you wanting the asking price be left posted ? Or are you wanting the seller to change their ad to the actual selling price ?
The asking price and actual price sold for could be different.
What I actually sell an item to someone for is between the buyer and myself and nobody else's business.
Also on this topic are you wanting sellers/traders to list what their item traded for ?
Certainly not. Some people would just like to see the original ad. No need to give away extra details.

With this discussion going. Can there be a cross / line through it icon, next to the B I and U ? This way the price can still be visible yet crossed out, with say as i do, post SOLD next to the price also?
I can make a custom bbcode for it. I'll see if the editor has an icon for it.
Good idea Jim.
And Bob, no you dont HAVE to do anything or leave anything or change anything. I was only asking as a friendly request to help us out. I agree whatever seller and buyer agree on is their business.
Just bumpin this up for another look

Copy. Will do. Thanks.
Its been a while so I wanted to bump this one back up again as a friendly reminder.
Was there ever a verdict on Kwandos question of allowing authors of the ad to close it when it's sold? I think that's a good idea.
I've also found that using bb code strike /strike works.

For right now we will likely just keep it how it is.

Just out of curiosity here. Why is it that you (OP) are not able to edit the thread title? Would be easy to just post sold in the title.

Won't matter in 3 weeks[Coffee] but its a good idea
Good question sandman, we want to try and eliminate issues in the Trading Post where someone might post up an ad them change it after a potential deal is made with another member. We have seen it before and while this may be a little cumbersome to some its just the best way we have found to deal with it.

Thanks for the reply. I figured there was a good reason. I really like the Trading Post on this forum. I appreciate being able to buy or sell most anything here. Been great meeting some of the members in person doing so.
Just a friendly bump!!
