So I was surfing through craigslist looking for a new truck in our price range of 2000(haha), and I see this listed way out of my price range at 3600.

Well, 2 hours later its back up @ 3200obo.

So, I lowball at 1800$, and we finally settle on 1950. I pack the fam up, and were off to Aurora (note the nice neighborhood in the backround). Ive visited a lot of you guys up in denver/aurora area, its always sucky to drive up there, but the neighborhoods are always nice and well maintained.

Well, the guy says to meet him at colfax and beeler, so I plugged it into the gps and off we go. Well, as we turn onto colfax it was a little run down, but nothing too bad. (prior to me moving here i was a mile away from newark, nj which is not the nicest place in the world)

As we turn onto beeler, it looked and felt as if we were turning onto that street from training day that denzel lived on. [LOL] Now, I had called the guy when my gps said 10 min, and he said he'd be waiting at the car. After 10 min go by, the fat white fellow in the boonie hat and camo shorts was attracting quite a bit of attention. I had waves of crackheads come up to me and demand money "yo GIVE me a dollar". I had to push one back after he drunkly stumbled within less then a foot of me. At this point I start second guessing not putting the 13 round mag in the glock 30. Mamabear had her little bodyguard unholstered in her purse. Well the whole time we were sitting there, this aurora leo keeps circling the block staring us down. Finally, after 20 min he pulls up and says "what are you doing here?" So I told him that we are buying the yukon that's sitting there. He asks how much Im buying it for, and how I was paying for it. I replied 1900 and cash, its like we stole it. Wrong choice of words! "You stole it?" I turned bright tomato red, and quickly explained, "Ahh, no, its like we stole it because its so cheap. So after chatting for a few minitues about how this was THE WORST street in Co, he offered to run the vin and plates on the yukon to ensure it wasn't actually a stolen vehicle. He then parked across the street the entire time we were there. (over an hour) I unfortunately was to preoccupied to catch his name, but I did call the station after i got home and thanked them. It would have been VERY uncomfortable to sit and count out a couple thousand bucks without an officer there, and it was awesome of him to go out of his way to look after me and my f.amily like that

So, we ended up getting an awesome deal on our new truck. Its got a few issues, and needs some new tires, but man I couldn't be happier with it!!!

Here's when we got home from our trip to downtown Beruit

When I came back the last time (93) I stayed with friends around Colfax and Quebec. Got pulled over a few times by them asking what I was doing there. Of course driving around the fun part of town with plates that belong 500 miles away.......[Coffee]

My first time over there, I felt like I was in Weird Al's White and Nerdy video. I know exactly how you feel. Congrats on the ride. Does it have the factory locker in the rear?

The APD folks are generally pretty cool. Lots of friends of mine in the department, and they are good folks. Glad to hear you had a PD protection detail while in A-town!

Be careful in Saudi Aurora! When reading your story I thought the cop may have to save you and your 2000.00 dollars. Glad it turned out for you. Lots of scams out there.

Colfax and Beeler is a rough neighborhood even in the daytime. If someone asked me to show up there with $2K CASH to buy something off craigslist I'd ask them to meet me a few miles East. Glad the crackheads didn't steal you.

If cofi sounds intelligent, 10 out of ten times I edited it. There may still be grammatical errors, but at least you can read it. As for my husband taking his whole family on a tour of the ghetto, we were in fact very lucky that cop was around. I'm almost 100% sure that he thought we were there to buy drugs, in which I am almost 90% sure we were going to be offered when the lovely lady in the pink pants asked " yo, you got a cigarette?" I am very greatful that cop protected us from the crackheads and spared us having to actually use our weapons to defend ourselves. Now we know Colfax isn't the best area.

We also have a MLK blvd and numbered avenues. Those hoods are about 15 blocks North of where you were and run from Washington to Yosemite streets and are a little bit safer than Fax & Beeler, although there are a few notable clusters of stupidity.

Nice rig I dig it.

And yes Cotex is a shit hole. I grew up on the south side of Chicago, so I think these wannabe pretend gang bag douche bags are cute when they think they are tough. I would love to take a bus full of them and dump 'em down on the south side of Chitown...lol oh man that would be great!! They would be cryin inside of a minute.

ok two little issues if any of you chevy/gmc guys feel like chiming in i would appreciate it!

someone had tapped a set of running lights into the alternator signal wire(stupid) the wire they tapped in shorted out so when i bought the truck it wasnt charging at all and running like crap i dissconnected that wire now the alternator is charging at like 16v! for 10 min or so and then not charging at all.....im thinking the voltage regulator is fried? is there a way to test this?

the 4wd is not working it will shift the trans into lowgear but there is no 4wd and no lights on the floor shifter(2wd/4hi/4lo) i replaced a blown fuse but still no juice im thinking it may be the 4wd actuator but i really need a wiring diagram or something so i can back probe the system

The alternator is likely just dead, have it tested. Most likely the diode was killed when the short happened.

The 4x4 not working is tougher, on my 99 it was the dash switch, but it sounds like you have a different setup, so I cant help at the moment.

OK spleify, as I remember some years ago, the South side of Chicago and it was around 35th & State/35th & Cottage Grove, used to be a real battle zone and this was even before drugs were so popular. Of course Cabrinni Green housing project (now demolished) was not exactly the safest place to roam around on a Saturday night.[UZI][AR15]

True that....

The bad guys get you up front, the department gets you from the rear (From the movie "End of Watch" and cleaned up a bit.)

Congrats on the truck. That part of town isn't the best but I don't think it's that dangerous. It's only a mile from some million dollar homes on 6th avenue.

Try walking Beeler Street from 13th to 17th and back again after 10PM on a Friday or Saturday night by yourself without a police uniform or a sidearm.

Driving past it on Colfax during daylight hours is perfectly safe.

16th and Moline. APD will not send a single car to respond there. Minimum 4 officers.

The projects over near 13th and Federal are pretty sketchy too...

I delivered pizza at 13th and Federal for over a year. I definitely did not like going south of Colfax on Federal, but I think I'd rather deliver pizza there than the area we are talking about on Colfax.

5D and 7D [Flower] Only two kinds of white people in those neighborhoods; tourists who got lost, and people looking for drugs.[Luck]

Actually, most of the shooting in Congress Heights, SE DC was between rival crews. Tourists rarely got hurt. 2D in Georgetown was fun on Friday and Saturday nights, and 1D could get crazy at the clubs around the convention center.

Worst neighborhoods for me, would still be Whitelock and Mondawmin around Druid Hill Park in Baltimore. I can recall conversations with hoodlums in DC who were afraid to set foot in those parts of Baltimore. [Coffee]

Be safe.
