View Full Version : NFL Rant

OK, I'll start this by saying that I'm not an ardent fan of the NFL...
I don't want to hear any whining about the hopped up morons that play a game for a living. Let me say that again: YOU GET PAID TO PLAY A GAME. YOU GET PAID A LOT OF MONEY TO PLAY A GAME. I dare you freakin morons to spend just one day doing an honest day's work.
Let me help you out in another way: Your lives playing a game have no impact on teh lives on anyone and you have no real impact to society in general. Most players have a college degree. Maybe that criminal justice degree could be used to help understand what makes criminals tick, maybe you could go teach kids about the society of america with your degree in civics/political science.
All I get to hear all day is you whining about how you don't feel the game is fair anymore with the replacement refs. You're still playing a game for a living.
You're all weaklings who don't have the intestinal fortitude to shut the eff up and realize how lucky you are. There are people who have real problems. They don't have jobs, they can't pay their bills, their vehicles break down... the list is almost endless.
Get off your high horse and stop complaining about getting a bad call when there is no real implication to the real world.

6/10 for lack of swearing. I totally agree with you. I'm also pretty excited that the Dallas game is being shown here so I don't have to go find a bar to watch it. [Tooth]
Having worked very closely with 2 NFL quarterbacks in my past (Steve Young and Joe Montana) I can tell you that they are very very intelligent and incredibly business savvy.
That said I give the rant a 3/10 since it didn't have a lot of fire and brimstone which is what I like - that and its just a regurgitation of stuff.
No matter what the profession is, things going on in that line of work will matter to those involved in it. There will be the same amount of bitching about year end bonuses on Wall Street, as there will be about schedule changes at the local Arby's. I understand the rant, but it is kind of shitty to say that someone's whole life doesn't matter. It obviously matters to them.
I'm no fan of the NFL. Here is my NFL rant: Your music sucks. The NFL song on Fox makes me want to drill my ears. Now I have to listen to it during UFC.

I'm sorry but you are completely wrong and your thinking is socialist and reminds me of the crap BO is putting out.
They do a job that will take 20 years or more off their life expectancy. I would also bet they spend more time doing their work then most do. This is their job and there is a market for it. There is a market for what they are selling and working for so who are you to judge what people need and want?
Let me help you out in another way: Your lives playing a game have no impact on teh lives on anyone and you have no real impact to society in general.
Who are you to judge what is an impact on society? Many find value in what they do, that is why they get paid what they do. The market speaks to this fact.
Most players have a college degree. Maybe that criminal justice degree could be used to help understand what makes criminals tick, maybe you could go teach kids about the society of america with your degree in civics/political science.
So since you deem their jobs worthless you think they should do something they may not want to do? No one should have to do something they don't want to do. This is a free country. What do you do to contribute to the above social problems?
All I get to hear all day is you whining about how you don't feel the game is fair anymore with the replacement refs. You're still playing a game for a living.
They want to be the best they can be in what they do. If you were unfairly judged in your work you would also have a problem with it.
You're all weaklings who don't have the intestinal fortitude to shut the eff up and realize how lucky you are. There are people who have real problems. They don't have jobs, they can't pay their bills, their vehicles break down... the list is almost endless.
So the NFL players should not get what they get so these poor can pay their bills? Perhaps we should listen to the OWS people, they are saying the same thing about CEOs as you, and re-distribute their money?
Get off your high horse and stop complaining about getting a bad call when there is no real implication to the real world.
This is simply your opinion about the NFL and as is said above, your view is myopic. The market sets the value of a product, not the individual.
I won't even rate the rant! I thought it was weak. Everyone pisses and moans about their job, their family, politics, what isn't going right in "their" world. Just the way it is.
One thing I don't understand is how a seemingly good percentage of professional athletes, or other very high income earners suck with money. I understand you have a "life" to live and the cost of living increases with the amount you make, but I would think the amount you save would as well. Not to mention investments, and having someone around you guide you to do something smart with your money for the future.

Wow. That is a bit harsh.
I am sure the OP posted this because he is sitting in a shit hole called Afghanistan. Perhaps he is comparing it to the meager salaries in comparison that the young American Soldiers are earning. Just a guess.
To make such a comparison with the OP is completely uncalled for and just plain ignorant.
This site is certainly circling the drain. [Bang]

From Wikipedia:
"A socialist economic system would consist of an organization of production to directly satisfy economic demands and human needs, so that goods and services would be produced directly for use (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Production_for_use) instead of for private profit driven by the accumulation of capital (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_accumulation). Accounting would be based on physical quantities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calculation_in_kind), a common physical magnitude, or a direct measure of labour-time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_voucher) in place of financial calculation.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism#cite_note-4)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism#cite_note-5) Distribution of output would be based on the principle of individual contribution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_each_according_to_his_contribution)."
What you say is wrong about the NFL is that they make too much for playing a game and that what they do has no social value and therefore does not meet your standard of individual contribution. Also what they choose to do with their time is wrong.
Please re-read what you wrote with an open mind to what socialism stands for.

Just watched an idiot official throw his hat on the ground directly in the path of a receiver, causing him to slip on it, costing them a TD. Lucky it didn't cause him to blow out his knee.

NFL sucks..... Ticket prices are pretty much beyond anyones means. They make a buttload of money selling in comercials that sell product that are beyond alot of peoples means. Taking twenty years off their lives, too fucking bad. They have as good a medical plan as congress and the senate, whcih most American cannot afford. Look at the cost our troops are paying, with life and limbs, for a nonsensical conflict. So unless ticket prices go down, they stop whining and a whole lot of other nonsense, they can blow me.....I will not spend the money to go to games... I would rather watch high school games....

Yeah what the hell was that about? The only time I've ever seen an official throw his hat was because there were two penalties and he'd already used his flag. Why did the guy even throw it?
That BS definitely cost Dallas the TD. Glad he wasn't hurt.
I find it amazing that there is so much bitching about a private entity that makes its own money. Who cares if they have awesome healthcare, they paid for that. You don't like it, don't sent them your money. I happen to like football, so I will. I personally think baseball is boring as shit, but I'm not going to get all butthurt that they have better doctors than I do and their jerseys are overpriced.

I quit watching when the QB almost cut himself shaving and was out for 6 games.....

LOL, No. But they did take a chunk out of Matt Schaub's ear on a dirty hit. Looks like the Donkeys are starting to play like the Raiders.
Sitting here watching the Patriots/Ravens game and I don't ever recall a crowd chanting "bullshit" that loud or that long before... There's something like 25 accepted penalties so far.

Yeah that was pretty crazy. It was a terrible call. What a great game though.
There were 23 penalties in the Dallas/Tampa Bay game as well, and a few dirty plays that didn't get called at all.

Wasn't a dirty hit... If you watch it slowed down, the force of the throw caused Schaub's head to come down into the hit. Had the throw not happened, or had he controlled his head, Mays' helmet would have hit him in the shoulder. [Beer]

You know, I remember when someone could express their opinion on this site without someone criticizing them and comparing them to Maobama, or saying that they might as well be a socialist because what they said didn't match the textbook definition of "capitalist" or "American Patriot" or whatever. I guess I figure that we're all entitled to our opinions, and I just get tired of people's opinions being held up to someone's "Is This Correct?" litmus test.
I mean, wow, a line by line rip of someone's post, while you tell them how wrong they are and that it is only their opinion? Yup, it's his opinion. I think SuperiorDG has a hell of a lot of gall ripping him line by line like that. TheBelly has the right to his opinion just like anyone else does. Do you have the right to rip his opinion? Yeah, you do. Just shows a lack of class, in my opinion (just wanted to throw that in there so it's clear that IT'S MY OPINION) and just because you have the right to do something doesn't always mean you should.
Seriously, dissecting his post because you claim he's "completely wrong" over FOOTBALL?? And then we have "If you don't like football, don't watch! To some of us it's the greatest game ever invented!"...how about, if you don't like or agree with the OP's opinion, don't tell him he's wrong for it. I enjoy watching football, occasionally. And hockey. But (here it comes again) in my opinion Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, and whatever other major league sports have fans that leave and breathe the sport are simply the opiate of the masses; there to keep the mobs satiated and from spending their time thinking about other things.
I'm just tired of seeing people getting ripped for expressing their opinions. It's OK to disagree with others' opinions, I mean hell, opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one and they all stink. But to sit there and tear into them point by point over an opinion about something like football? Uncouth.

I agree! Watched the Arizona/Steelers Super Bowl game in AFG and two hours later had a little more to worry about than losing a $10 bet on that game. Hint: we had a rocket attack.
Went to the Broncos game yesterday, was upset that we lost for about 5 min then back to normal. It's amazing when you think about it what it really does in the long run for you... Provides a little entertainment, then back to living YOUR life. I couldn't really care any less who wins the super bowl this year... if it's us, great, if not, whatev's. Like TheBelly, I've got bigger things to worry about. [Beer]
