View Full Version : ak-74 Bulgy Kit with North dakota spud receiver
I was at the tanner gun show today and there was a guy selling an ak-74 bulgy kit built on a Nodak SPUD receiver. It was the only one I saw. He was selling it for $650. The card he gave me was or J & S Gun sales & repair. He is from some place just south of Colorado Springs. I was wondering if this sounded like a good deal from what I have looked at.
My question is has anyone ever got anything from J & S gun sales? And as it a good deal in general?
I have been doing some research but it is not substitution for hands on knowledge.
I would be interested in trying to build an AK but would like to watch some AK builds in the Greeley/ Northern Colorado area, Questions always arise when trying something new.
I did get the name of the owners of J & S gun sales. They are the ones that did the build.
Please let me know your thoughts

lmao
It could be a home build or it could be a company build. You can build them a lot cheaper than $650 with a chrome lined barrel.
Call him up, ask who built it and whether it has a chrome bore.

He built the gun and had test fired it. I does have a chrome bore.
As for the spelling forgive me last night, I posted it after I was done watching football which involved a few, maybe several, beers.
Todays market $650 isn't such a bad deal for a built gun.I see WASRS going for that.
It's true you can build it cheaper.
Rachel Ray should be along anytime now and fill you in......

hey fellow greelyite lol yeah 650 is about the going rate for a nice build on a nodak with a chrome lined barrel, though they can be built cheaper
Too high.
In today's' market, with some companies selling WASRs as "M10"s and charging an arm and a leg, if you don't know AKs, then you might get taken.
A fair price for a built bulgy is around $550 or less.
Now, a top-notch bulgy, look at $750.
Nodak receiver or no, doesn't mean it is built correctly or functions correctly or doesn't have everything canted. It also certainly doesn't mean it is compliant.
At the shows, look for tables that have several AKs of the same style (ie bulgies, romys, huns, etc) especially with consecutive receiver serials.
You come across an AK, especially one with no serial on the receiver, you are taking a gamble. There are plenty of REPUTABLE Colorado companies who have made ALOT of AKs and have done it right.
The one you saw at the table may have been the companies' first build-which may or may not be done correctly.
Blah. I talk too much.

Where can you find one for $550? I have not really find 74 for that besides some Polish Tantals, but I have heard few good things especialy when it comes to keyhole issues.
Has anyone ever done a Saiga conversion?
What would be "better" to do a kit build or a Saiga Conversion?
When buying an AK what are things to look for? I know that mag wiggle can be an issue but how much mag wiggle is ok?
Trying to get a good AK-74 has been more difficult then the other guns I have picked up.
This really depends on what you want from the rifle.
If you want a shooter, then the Saiga conversion is the simplest method. BP Tactical does conversions, and I'm sure with a little guidance you could do one yourself. Building from a kit takes more time and involves some shopping around for parts and deals. When Jim and Justin get around to hosting another build party, you are pretty close and it would be worth stopping in for a lesson or two on flat bending and rail welding.
Be safe.
I've seen several on cologunmarket these past few weeks.

Thank you for another source
I'd stay away from gunbroker, their usualy jacking up the price well over20% or better.
Local sales would be the best.

there was only a small amount of tantals in a specific serial number range that had incorrect barrels causing keyholes.
saiga conversions are very easy especially it only doing a pistol grip conversion, check youtube
