Okay, I've had about enough. Ban me if you wan't, I'll use the time I spent here for a better purpose.
There have been a few threads started (Cop shooting the guy in a wheelchair) that have been cut off short because they are directed at the blatantly inappropriate actions of a LEO.
Now don't get me wrong, for the "average" senario that could be looked at either way, I tend to side with the cop until I find out more. Also, I would like it made obvious that I am aware the the owner of this forum is a LEO. I am too, and that doesn't grant one to a position of automatic rightousness! That is a BS reason to always side with the cop. To be quite frank, a cop's job is to not always side with the cop! We are supposed to side with the TRUTH!
Shooting a one armed, one legged man in a wheelchair because he has you "cornered" is total bullshit! If the cop kicked him over in his wheelchair, fine, if he Tasered him, or OC'd him, fine, even if he punched him in the face, fine. But this cop KILLED a MAN out of fear for his personal saftey? The 21 foot drill doesn't really cut it with a man in a wheelchair.
Thsi forum chose to shut down the thread because it was going south, why? The forum members were upset? They have every right to be upset! I'm tired of seeing them shut down when they have a vaild point. Any cop should be ashamed of him/herself for supporting this unnesseary censorship.
I know I'm getting the boot, and I'm glad for it. Grow a fucking pair COAR-15!

I understand where you're coming from; it seems that very little criticism (justified or otherwise) of any LEO/LEA gets by here. However, it is a privately "owned" forum and as such even though it is open to the public its content and our participation is at the discretion of the mods.
Doesn't mean I necessarily agree with how they do it, but (I believe) that's the way it is. All things considered, they let a lot of things go that others (ARFCOM, anyone?) would shut down and ban you for a lot sooner. The "A word to rioting muslims" thread is a good example...
take the good with the bad . you can pretty much say what you want here .so what if you cant cop bash or go off on a racist tangent (justified or not ) .aside from those 2 subjects your good . think about all the crap you cant say on other "gun" sites . this place is a cut above the rest even with the limitations (IMO)
[Coffee]
it was an isolated incident....nothing to see there
Reminds me of a song by G&R named "Hair on the dog", let it go like others have said for the most part mods around here are way more laxed then a lot of other forums. And with you being LEO I would think that even in an outlandish case like the one you mentioned you would be excited to see an end to the "Cop Bashing" before it really took off. I would think that a bunch of people ragging on cops would make your life harder on a daily bases as well as kill your morale but that just my $0.2

I agree. I think "Cop Bashing" should never take place. You can certainly express your opinion and state that what one particular cop's actions are not what you agree with. Cops are dudes/dudettes just like everyone else. The owner of this forum clearly does not condone negativity toward law enforcement. You don't like it? GTFO then. The mods on here are as reasonable as I've seen anywhere.

There's also a difference between "All cops are ...." and "this particular situation was a chicken fuck..."
Threads usually start out OK, and this cop vs amputee thread should have been able to be discussed as long as it was kept to that particular scenario. But threads tend to drift...

I'm with Whiskey! Kind of like someone whining about guns on craigslist!![Coffee] I'm on the spouse side of the cop house. There are some good ones, and bad ones. The bad ones make it crappy for the good ones. My only request to the popo population here. Be vigilant, and cautious, but don't treat everyone like a suspect. Being constantly treated like crap when confronted by the police, doesn't gives you guys the respect you deserve.

you are one of the worst ones about sticking up for every mistake a cop makes. as we know you are one. im guessing fairly new.
cop bashing should never take place??? what the hell? you bash politicians right? you probably bash lots of people. Cops and teachers are not the saints of the world that we need to worship. they know what the job entails, and still take the job. they either play by the rules or go get a job at taco bell.
I understand on THIS SITE we dont bash cops. because the founder of the site is an leo. But, to say we should never bash cops is laughable.
I was one, my family is full of them. Cops are not a protected class of people. get over yourself. we are not civilians you are not special.

I am right there with you. The rules of this site about what is ok and not ok are enforced based solely on the whim of a good or bad mood of the mods or site staff. The fact that you can get a time out just for arguing with with a mod through PM is asinine in the extreme. To then be given a reason for that time out that shows a complete lack of understanding of a 1st grade parable is just insult to injury.
I am by no means advocating for a free for all with no rules. But the rules about what is and isn't ok to post is by far not well spelled out and enforced only on a good or bad mood.
Though it does seem that if you say anything but good things about a cop it will get locked.
What it boils down to is the benefit you get from associating with the peons on this site worth dealing with the rules of the site. There are some good conversations here that make it worth coming back for and worth putting up with the petty BS .

whether you're trying or not is irrelevant
Come on folks, let’s all take a step back for a second. Cops are not god-like; neither are military or anybody else for that matter. However, we do afford those who go in harm’s way a little more understanding, because they have a tough job to do. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and sometimes good things happen to bad people. It all comes out in the wash - what comes around goes around, and all that stuff. Justice will be served in this life or in the next one. We can't change anything in this forum, why raise your blood pressure?
So, with this officer's history of having engaged a person in the act of stabbing his neighbor back in 2009, do you think this officer is more sensitive to situations involving stabbing weapons? Do you think it matters?

I was the one that closed the thread. It wasn't to stick up for the cop.
The thread had no real discussion. It was headed nowhere but sarcastic remarks and far fetched comparisons. So I closed it, as I didn't see any viable path for that thread to become a valuable discussion. I only saw a downside of it branching off to a couple of cop bashing posts and getting closed anyways.

Good one Irving. Had me laughing at it.
As to the subject at hand. Police are like everyone else. Do I think they deserve extra protection about things like this...no. That is like saying you shouldn't say anything bad about priests who mollest children because of all the good priests out there. You need to lay blame on those who deserve it. Now theat being said...and I know I am responsible for this myself, we need to keep the blame to the individual and not blame the officers who arn't responsible for the actions.
I would address the officers here in this...I respect the officers who do their job and arn't over zealous in their actions. There is a mentality among officers that needs to change. This blue line idea that an officer is to be defended reguardless of what they have done. You need to realize officers (like everyone else) can become criminals and have to be held accountable for their actions.
As for the amputee in the wheelchair and the officer who shot him...nothing has been said about the officer even being equiped with a tazer. Untill that info is released I would gather that he didn't have one. I suspect there may have been other tools at his disposal but the amputee had a history of mental problems as well. I would withhold judgment on this one untill more info is released.

Sweeping generalization.
While many officers are mental, I would not agree that "there is a mentality among officers that needs to change." Very few officers that I know, would defend other officers regardless of what they have done. I, and I believe most officers realize that SOME officers can (have and will continue to) become criminals. In fact I would go so far as to say I know of criminals who have become officers to facilitate their criminal enterprise. While it may come as a surprise to some, officers are held accountable for their actions. This happens both criminally and administratively. While I understand that there are citizens who do not feel that the actions taken to address mistakes, misconduct, and even criminal behavior by officers meets their standard of fairness, I would suggest that you do not always have all of the facts.
I often run into people who tell me they know something for a fact. Upon further questioning what I find is they believe something because they have hearsay information which tends to fit within their perception of reality. This often does not rise to the level of proof within our judicial system.
Be safe.

The OP, I believe, is addressing the ever increasing control being imposed by moderators. I've seen this happen the last 2 years.
Another example that got much less attention. Jerrymrc slammed a member because they started a thread with a link to an article about rice having arsenic. Jerry didn't like what the article said and proclaimed he wasn't going to put up with that “chicken little crap on his thread” and shut the thread down.

Statistically, I would expect to see more moderation on the site. There are simply more members, and there has been a LOT of growth over the last two years. Simply put, we average about the same percentage of rabble rousers, but the actual numbers are increasing as the blog population increases.
As per the rice thread, the article was horrible and devoid of anything resembling scientific method or supporting information. There is some info out there and some studies ongoing on the subject, but for the most part from the little I looked into the matter, nobody really knows if the info is even relevant. So, a news group posts an outlandish claim based off of preliminary studies and the FDA. Then it was posted here as fact. The OP got called on it and got snippy in the thread and completely unacceptable in PMs. Then he got spiked like a volleyball. Tissue can be found on isle 11 at the local Wal-mart.
You are here voluntarily. You are here for free. You don't own the site. You don't set the rules OR the social temperament. That is left up to those who volunteer their time and energy to the site. If you have a problem, take it to PM to a mod and don't act like a narcissistic jackass and it will get worked out. Make life difficult, refuse to follow some fairly simple guidelines, act like a jackass; expect to get spiked like a volleyball. There's nothing new here... Seriously, some of you need to step away from the keyboard for a bit and self-reflect.
