There is a reason I work on smaller vehicles like Eurotrash cars. This would be one of them.

Yes, the breaker bar is bending. No, I will not get closer to take a better pic. Has to be about 3-400 ft lbs of pressure right now if not more. My impact does not have the balls to twist that.
I have no problem driving the truck to you to break the nut free if you dont want the tool out of your shop and bringing it back to do the work. Otherwise I may have to walk away from this job.
ETA: I meant borrow.

Too late, head just cracked off of the breaker bar.
Step 1: Lower jack
Step 2: Take handle off of jack
Step 3: Place handle over breaker, and use for extra leverage
Step 4: Remove bolt
Step 5: Buy me a beer for how helpful I have been
[Beer]
Edit: New Step 1: Go buy another breaker
Not an impact but i have a 600 ft lb torque wrench if you need it.

I have a 3/4 breaker bar around here somewhere, your welcome to come by and use it. I have used it to break loose the front hub bolts on the 13B's, which are torqued for some reason to 300lbft and loctited with some over-achieving Japanese loctite.

Theres an app for that....
Seriously though, get a cheater pipe or use the jack handle, cheaper than an impact and faster, you can use a piece of good size conduit or any sturday hollow tubing really. The jack isn't giving you any more leverage it's just trying to pick up the truck with the breaker. You'll be amazed how easy it comes off with a cheater pipe

Torque wrenches are not made or meant for removing hardware.
I know but will not be using again so it will loosen it dont care if it doesnt read right anymore. Its just shy of 4 foot long too.

Yes please.
Did I mention I mostly work on stuff with a 1/4 drive ratchet? [ROFL1]
Seriously, is there a locknut on the hub nut, maybe? If the two nuts line up so the socket slides over both, that would account for not being able to get it to break loose...

Nope. 175 ft lbs torque spec and a ton of rust. Pretty typical of the dodges. I am not looking forward to pulling the hub to get to the ball joints I tell ya.
Soak it with WD40 and hammer it with a brass mallet. Put a pipe on the breaker bar handle and stand on it.

PM sent
I have a 3/4" impact as well as a 1" impact. If that doesn't bust it loose I have access to an 1 1/2" impact if you want to man handle the heavy bastard.
You'd have to come to me though. [Beer]

Big boy tools for the win! Thanks DFBrews!
Soak over night with pb blaster.Jack up the front so the wheel is off the ground and try it with the impact gun.
I've had to take the torch and heat some of these up to loosen, but thats rusty crusty NY,I doubht thats the case with this one.

Had to do the same thing on the BIL's truck. Instead of messing with the axle/hub assembly I just pulled the unit bearing from the knuckle and took axle/hub completely out.

No problems man...anytime.

I proved this to my 14yo son this weekend busting some lug nuts loose. My cheapo impact wouldn't break them, but a 2 ft piece of pipe on the ratchet worked like butter. (Made him try without the pipe, then with)
Always keep a piece of pipe around for such jobs.

Everything is soaked with PB Blaster at the moment should be good to go tomorrow. Those two nuts were the only ones I wasn't really tooled up to handle.

This was my thought.
So I googled and came up with this (http://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-ram/286317-torch-to-break-loose-axle-nut.html) ... in particular post #7 which answered this question with "2000 is right hand thread. Earlier models had the left."
I don't know Dodge trucks well enough to tell what year they are by looking at them.
they where right hand thread... a little love from a 3/4 impact took them right off

Though you will note that the side I broke tools on was easier to get off then the other side. Thats right, my breaker bar did not give its life in vain.
Moment of silence please.[Tooth]

This! Although I've used PB Blaster as well, Kroil is THE s**t.
Glad to hear you were successful. Moment of silence observed for your slaughtered breaker bar.
Late to the party but I can feel your pain. Had to rebuild a hub/spindle last week. The just are not fun.

Reminds me of a roommate in college that had to take a breaker bar back to Sears. As he was exchanging it, the sales rep asked "So, how long was the piece of pipe?" Roommate answered, "Oh about this long" |_________________________________________________ ______________|
(which was about 3 ft)
exchange without any problems.

Damn it. I could have used my own air impact if I had brought it with me for the axle nut. I used my portable gas air compressor and it zipped the pinion off like butter today.
Should have just put the truck in reverse!

Not that it matters now, but I have had very good luck with a mechanical impact driver and a sledge/engineers hammer. I also have a 1/2" breaker bar and a four foot piece of pipe, but I have rung the heads off of bolts with them before.
