I am interested in changing out the grips and keeping the rests original, What options (Which is limited) are available for newer style foregrips?

To swap out the grips you would need to get the propper length grip screw for it,and you can mount a different grip on the front handguard-but it will move around on you a bit unless you make a stop for it to keep from twisting.I used the grip nut from a yugo m70 on mine and fastened into place.
Theres all kinds of options availible out there, you just have to poke around with the different vendors to see what you like. :)

You could also screw, bolt or rivet a small piece of rail to the metal handguard for a rail mounted grip

This, but first cut across the hump that the pg sits over, on the lower hg. Flatten out this area with a hammer, install a low budget rail such as Magpul then install a VFG or AFG of your choice.
