Our next door neighbors house was broken into this morning.
I was home all day and did not here anything going on.My mom and wife were gone most the day.

They came in through the e backside through the garrage which is on the opposite side of me.Broke in through the back door and kicked in the door leading into the house.

Seems like whomever broke in new their schedule or at least knew they weren't home. And they targeted a few things.Filing cabinets and such. They made off with some of their jewlery ,drivers liscense and checkbook.

Now this makes me re think security here at home but I feel I have it covered.
We have no back way into the house thats easily acessable or hidden. They are well lit and in good view of the street and secured. All valuables are locked away and are in such a way you would have to rip up the floor and walls to move them.
Now the only thing I want to add would be cameras at key points to record anything if so happens. The neighbors realy have nothing to go by but if they had cameras it would help
Their still waiting on the P.D to arrive as well, and that was from this morning. So needless to say what was taken is non recoverable

Keep your head on a swivel and police up after yourselves and make it harder on the criminals and keep what's your's just that-your's..

Does your neighbor have teenagers? Do his teenagers have friends?

Other than that, call the local district station and ask if they have any pattern burglaries in your area. Based on what you listed, it doesn't sound like they were inside for very long and they didn't take easily fenced items (besides jewelry). TVs, computers, electronics, guns etc...

Glad no one was hurt.

Be safe.

This was ONE of the other reason I decided to stay here at home by myself , when my wife and kid went on a long vacation with in-laws.

They do have a teenage daughter,so I would suspect the boyfriend.
I would have suggested to them to find out where their kids were during the day,to include her friends as well. But not my place to tell them,I just make sure my daughter is well educated on the fact.
I've talked to a couple of local LEO's and theres realy no pattern around here.Just the occasionals.

I hate theives.Good thing they didn't consider my house.
I was home cleaning the shotty...

Sounds like many of the items taken were for use in identity theft. Your neighbor should call the big 3 credit reporting agencies and initiate a fraud alert.

People look at me funny when I tell them I don't answer my door until the person identifies themselves. Colo Spr has had an increasing number of home invasions and robberies and I want to mitigate my chances of becoming a victim.

This afternoon I had the rare occurrence of someone ringing my doorbell. As I usually do (sometimes I make no sounds so they won't know if anyone is home or not), I loudly and gruffly said "Who is it?". No answer. I got a knock on the door. I repeated myself & this person asked "what?" (He heard/understood me). I asked again. His response: "Nobody" and he walked away. I watched him (early to mid twenties) walk away & he had some sort of pad of paper in his hand. I saw him look back at my house. Probably just a solicitor, but you never know.

Doors & windows stay locked 24/7, alarm system on after we go to bed and when we aren't home. Never open the door to anyone I don't know (don't need people seeing my possessions). ASP baton (trained to use) and .45 very close at hand.

You just never know.

^^^ THIS!!! tell them to immediately put a fraud alert at all 3 agencies (I think if you do it at one, they must notify the others)

but I would suspect that there would be an attempt to steal their ID in the next 3 months...

once your ID is in the hands of criminals...assume somebody is going to pretend to be you... if their SSN# is their Drivers License#, then contact the SSA to tell them it's compromised as well.

It used to be that Illegals needed SSN's to report income to, and valid IDs to match.. but now they can use A TIN#, and claim dependents back home, so they don't need others ID so much... or the $1000s in tax refunds would go to the wrong people... [Coffee]

I haven't checked to see what the outcome was,but from what I knew last the P.D. has not been at the scene yet.
I would think they would get to the scene some time the same day to scrounge around for clues and get an overall view of what transpired. But I dont know if they had other communications with them.

My guess would be the daughters freinds or even her for that matter. To know where and when to go sets off a red flag for me..

My house is secure-wish I was allowed dogs, but landlord wont allow it :(
Now I also put this in my minds file to keep an eye on the neighbors going ons without being nosy, just cautios without getting paranoid.

I've seen worse in NY and dealt with it accordingly. No matter where you live theres allways theives to deal with.Excersize caution, good judjement and good security when dealing with unknown people. And even people you do know as well..
