I think it's funny how most here are of the "if you don't like it, don't read it" segment, but get upset when they open a thread titled "Jeffco CCW Wait Time?" and it has a question asking how long CCW wait times are in Jeffco...

Wow Denver has really stepped up.
Bear in mind this was a renewal, they said they were 90 days on new applicants. And I called clsoe to the 120 days out to to make my appointment.
Boulder was 60 days from the day I walked in and submitted paperwork and wrote the check to the day I walked out with my permit. I got mine end of last month.

Unless the county is trying to screw you (see denver), renewals are only a NCIC check so it's quicker than having to do fingerprints

Just renewed today and they told me less than 90 days will be a miracle. The deputy told me that they took 25 applications at the Ft. Collins facility just today and state wide they are averaging about 125 applications per day for new and renewal.

73 days still no word yet. Hopefully this week.
Today is 90th day on my wife's and nothing yet. We applied together on the same day and mine came a month ago.
UPDATE: Wife called sheriff's office (El Paso) on 95th day. Was told it was on the desk and would go out in a 7-10 days, so figure 102-105 days total. I think it got lost.
I just had two students that took our class on Saturday who live in Denver county contact me and told me that Denver is scheduling out to June 4th right for appointments.

Ridiculous, why would anyone want to live in city/county of Denver.
Took 9 days when I did mine in 2010, and no appt. Showed up @ sheriff office w/ app, they sent me next door to get printed, when I came back they took app, prints and money and they took my picture. Said they would call when ready. Took 30 minutes. Nine days later they called and left me a message saying permit was ready, did I want to pick it up or have them mail it.

Concealed Handgun Processing Status Update
http://parkco.us/images/CivicAlerts/9/Sheriff%27s%20Badge_thumb_thumb.jpg
Concealed Handgun Processing status update:
It was recently brought to the Sheriff’s Office attention that the lag time for the CBI and FBI background check process is taking 90 days. The CBI is in the process of resolving this issue.
The Park County Sheriff’s Office will continue to follow CRS 18-12-206. It is unlikely that you will receive your New or Renewed Concealed Handgun Permits prior to the 90th day after scheduled appointments.
Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated!

Went for my renewal over Christmas at Douglas County.
Still do not have it.
When I called and politely asked about it, I was rudely told to be patient.
Some of our public servants need to be reminded who they work for!
Chuck, I am sorry you feel you were mistreated, I will mention it to them Monday next time I am on shift.
I am not offering this as an excuse but only an explanation as to what our Sheriff is doing while we deal with the huge demand for CCW's I'm sure you know about.
Sheriff Weaver has added manpower to help customers get in and out as quickly as possible while they are in the Office for Permits, including renewals, he has also increased hours for behind the scenes administrative duties required to process CCW's, were currently averaging about 40-50 new CCW Applications per day.
As to the 90 day waiting period, your renewal still needs to be approved by CBI and that is where the issue is, we send the required info for your renewal into CBI normally within the week you came in so I can understand how you would have issue with the wait. We have been told that CBI is taking steps to deal with the log jam in CCW but they also took a budget cut last year so take that for what you will, also understand that firearms sales have gone up far more then CCW applications, its been documented that people from CBI CCW have been moved to purchase approvals in order to deal with the legal ramifications of approval waiting time limits but understand that CBI also was denied a special budget increase for this specific situation late last year.
I'm not making excuses for CBI I don't speak for them, what I am doing is trying to explain the situation we are in, you don't talk to CBI, You talk to Bob and Karen(and possibly a couple of others brought in to help while we have this rush), two of the nicest people I have ever known who are sick to death of telling people no we will call you when CBI approves it. We don't like telling people no, its not what our Sheriff wants us to do, he wants us to do whatever we can to serve the citizens of Douglas County quickly and politely but I fear you caught one of my coworkers in a moment of weakness and or frustration, I am sorry, but rest assured we are in this together, be patient my wife is waiting for hers too.
I will certainly tell you the same thing I tell everyone who asks me, keep track of the date on your CCW and keep the 90 day wait in mind, were not sure that this "Rush" is in fact just a rush, it may be the new norm, only time will tell, so the best thing you can do is apply for your renewal 120 days prior to your CCW's expiration, I hate saying it, but that's whats going on, life would be so much easier if CBI wasn't the lone approval source for the state, even though all Sheriff's offices have access to the database.

Spoke with another guy while I was in line to apply for mine today in JeffCo. He said he applied on Jan 17th and got the call yesterday to pick it up.
The woman that finger printed me said it was taking the full 90 days in JeffCo... so I'll hope for 60 but expect 90.
Chuck, check your PM's please
Weld County - Turned in paperwork on 1/28/13. They called today 3/28/13 with cleared background check and earliest photo/pick up appt. date is 4/8/13. So right now 2 months for call and 1.5 weeks later photo. Everyone has been very nice in the process from lady at Longmont office that took papers/money/finger print to the lady that called for appt. in Greeley for pic. She said 10 minutes after that I will have the permit in hand. Good people.

That's frustrating. I submitted a renewal on 1/23/13. They'll mail me my permit once it's completed and I haven't gotten jack. They are good people though.

Holy crap. What the heck, did they give you any explanation?
Received my renewal permit from Mesa County Sheriff today, 44 days after submitting the application.
Interesting that the card is in a new standardized format with a CO state flag and a photo image of mountains (looks like Longs Peak) in the background, with Mesa County Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit printed over the photo. The previous permits issued here were called a 'Concealed Weapons Permit'.

By law, they are obligated to approve or deny within 90 days, unless they have changed the statute. Don't know if stirring the pot is helpful or hindering.

Sorry for the late followup. The lady I talked to said she's the only person assigned to process them in the county, and she just had a huge backlog.
FYI: 37 days in Broomfield (July 23 to August 29).
And that includes almost a week it took me to drop off instructor's credentials, which I forgot to leave with the other paperwork.
I'm sorry to hear it's so slow in Larimer County now.

What is Arapahoe County's deal? It took 90 days for my permit and I submitted my application a week after the Newtown shootings. There's no reason it should still take that long.

Adams County, scheduled my appointment through the computer system. This is my second renewal, handed my paper work to an officer and he gave me a number to be called back. He stated that I would get my new permit today. Walked into the back and had a new picture taken, signed my paper work and gave them my check. My new permit was printed out and walked out of the office 10 minutes later. The Officer said they have changed their procedure and that when you sing up on the computer system they do a back ground check before you even arrive at the office.
This is for a renewal only. First time application will take longer.

Sorry, I did not see this earlier. I asked about that and she claims that they will not issue if they haven't run all of the checks.

Impressive*. Walked into the El Paso County Sheriff's office with my filled-out change of address form (http://shr.elpasoco.com/sites/default/files/resources/resources/COA_2014_0.pdf) and walked out 10 minutes later with a shiny new card.

5 days for my renewal in larimer county.
Hoping this is still the case. My renewal went past the expiration (D'oh!) but it's okay because I love my county so much I was just looking for a reason to give them another $15 anyway. They said 4-5 weeks but if it's closer to that 5 day mark I'd be much happier.

I'm tempted to say that "This is the way it should be." The problem for me is that I just can't agree to the notion that anyone should pay the government to exercise their God given right to protect themselves and wear a jacket over a legally carried firearm. But I'm sort of weird that way. [shithitsfan];
PS Oh yeah, I'm still waiting for my Sheriff to say YES to my Mother May I request. I just appreciate the instructor who provided my training.

Boulder County was 3 weeks to get appointment to submit paperwork and fingerprints. Then 8 weeks to get permit.
Per my Nephew who got his a couple of weeks ago.
My brother just got his CCW in Jeffco by using competitive shooting instead of taking a class. Over all he only had to pay the $102 and it only took about two weeks since he paid. He originally submitted a few weeks earlier (right before Thanksgiving) and they called him to tell him no one has ever submitted that way and they weren't sure if it was allowed. He told them that it is listed as an option, and as the FIRST option on the website, so they better figure it out. He got it in the mail today.
87 days in El Paso. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt because I’ve had a lot of addresses in the last 10 years, but Texas got it done in 4 weeks just a couple years ago. Kind of a bummer because I had heard EPSO was a lot quicker than that not long ago.
My DougCo renewal was three weeks on the nose.
They sent the letter/form/reminder in June for a permit to expire in Sept. I appreciated that and think it's a good policy--make sure everyone is covered. But then they took only three weeks.
Guess I haven't raised enough hell the last five years! Everyone was really nice too.

Day - 63 today. Still no permit. Initial application not a renewal. Larimer county.
Day 64 was the magic number!
Finally got around to the training class. El Paso County CHP applications are by appointment only. I made my appointment yesterday for February 9th (71 days). Afterwards starts the 90 day wait. So ~160 days total. Sometimes procrastinating doesn't pay off.
El Paso County is playing games with "90 days".
I got the renewal package form the Sherriff's office and immediately turned it around.
My check was cashed over a month ago.
Called them this morning because my permit expires this Sunday, October 31st.
I won't get my permit for about another two or more weeks, bringing the number of days to about 110.
Their explanation? "We didn't start processing it until August 13th, and it's up to 90 days from when we start processing it." - that's about two weeks after I sent it in.
So I guess any county can just stop processing permits, and they can delay them forever.*
I'm pretty steamed.
So, word to the wise: DO NOT wait for the Sherriff's packet to arrive, pull the forms yourself from the web page, fill them out and file them 120 days in advance.
O2
*My memory says there was some court case about this, not for CHP permits but for something else. If anyone can think of it, I'd appreciate a pointer.
================================================== =====
Follow up:
Later the day I called them, the Sherriff's office called back and the woman said she had just seen my name on one of the cards that was being mailed that day.
Kudos for that!
Card arrived the day before the previous card expired. A bit too close for comfort in my book. I'd still recommend pulling the renewal documents yourself and getting it in early for EL Paso County - they're running right up against the 90 days.

While I'm replying to this note....
I always tell people to set up your appointment BEFORE taking the class (long before, if possible) so those times can run concurrently.

Follow-up: Later in the day after my post #173, above, the Sherriff's office called me back to tell me that my permit was being mailed that day. The person I had talked to in the morning happened to have remembered my name and it jogged her memory when she saw it among the permits.
Kudos for her calling. Permit arrived the 30th, the day before my pervious permit expired. Talk about cutting it close.
Still, I stand by my suggestion of getting in your renewal 120 days in advance for El Paso county.

Douglas County - submitted my renewal October 28. Just received my email to pick it up today. 13 days. On top of that they dropped their fee for veterans, so cost was only $13 for the background check.

Yea, the only good thing Spurlock did was drop the fee for Vets. Then championed the red flag law so he can take guns without probable cause.
Cost me $33 total ($13+$5 notary + $15 late fee) cause I stared at the renewal notice on my desk until I forgot about it when I got too busy with work travel and landed in expired carry jail.
They said 4-6 weeks but I'm hoping they turn it around sooner.
Agree on Spurlock. The other cool thing he did was retain the original permit numbers for the first 250 permits handed out by the county. I think 4-6 weeks is there standard estimate for approval. Guessing the volume determines how long. I would guess you’ll have it back before then unless the fact that it expired adds more time. I cannot imagine that would cause it to take much longer.

She told the 2 before me the same, so expiration only gets a $ penalty AFAIK.
Larimer reports they're running around 30 days right now.

I just renewed in JeffCo too. The new permit looks like a kid made it in his basement. The old one had holographic overlay, professional printing, etc. New one is a piece of plastic, no overlay or any other security features and the printing is horrendous. Plus, they stretched the aspect ratio on my picture so I look about 100lbs fatter than I really am.
This is my third renewal, first online. JeffCOs 90 days is up July 7th, just received my issued email today July 3rd. Seems like my out of state Utah permit took less than a month, Jefferson County computers need help. I can see how a new permit may take 90 days if they want to, but why so long on a renewal? We do half the work for them by entering the info online.

None of my previous JeffCo renewals took 90 days. But a new liberal sheriff in town and magically they now take the full 90 days. Can't be a coincidence...
To give you an idea of who is leading the department now, the new Sheriff brings her wiener dogs with her everywhere... sometimes in a stroller.

Jeffco online renewal. Filled out the forms and sent the pictures required on 5-8-23. Today, it is still showing as "Order Pending." I called the number listed and talked to the gal at the sheriffs office to see if I they needed additional info, or if something was wrong or missing on the renewal form. Nope, I'm in line just like the rest. My permit expired a few days ago as I was not expecting this shit to take so long. Moving at the speed of the Govt.

I asked the lady that answered my call about carrying while waiting for my permit and after my current permit expires, she said you can’t, legally, even if my paperwork’s been submitted before it expires, yep.
i certainly won’t give JeffCO the benefit of the doubt next time, I’ll be submitting paperwork the first day I can.
My wife failed to renew before her permit expired so she took the class put on by the Elbert Cty. Sheriff's and she went in to do her prints and submitted her forms for background on Sat. July 8th and got the call on Tuesday. July 11th that her permit was ready to pickup.
kudos to Adams Co. My permit expired ( who knew a month in advance was not early enough to get an appointment?) Got there 20 min before my allocated block of appointment time started. Was finished and walking out with my new permit in my wallet 5 min after the time slot started. Even with the State mandated late fee my vet. discount took it back down to 38 dollars, AND the nice lady made me smile for the picture. Prob the first ID card pic I've had in 20 years I'm smiling.

I’ll be interested to see how long a new application takes, I got my permit back in 2012 from Arapahoe County and never renewed it. Last time I applied it was standing room only in there and if it didn’t show up at 7am when the doors opened you weren’t getting your application in that day. 3+ hour wait to get printed and sign everything as well…it was a nightmare. And then it was the full 90 days to get my permit to boot.
This time? I went on 9/5 around 11am, and was in and out inside of 10 minutes. We’ll see how long the permit takes to arrive though. It can’t be slower than my damn passport though.

I renewed mine in Arapahoe County today-printed out the renewal form and filled it out in advance. Roughly 15 minutes from when I walked through the door until I walked out with my new permit; not counting the time I spent catching up with a friend there lol.
