View Full Version : Fort Carson Range 1 - Shooters Wanted

I went out to Fort Carson's Range 1 last weekend for their monthly shooting day and had a great time. They have nice covered benches and steel out to 500 yds and it's completely free of charge.

I'm Army and have a range safety card for the post so I can sign for this range so long as I have a second DoD ID cardholder with me.

If you're a DoD ID cardholder (active, reserve, guard, retired, even dependent) and would like to come shooting with me some upcoming weekend, please send me a PM. It's a great opportunity to shoot out to 500 at no cost, with none of the typical public range mandated hot/cold interval. We'll shoot until we're ready to check our targets and then we'll go cold for only as long as we need to.

It's going to get busy real soon there on the weekends. The rifle hunters always wait until October to sight-in.

Shoot me a PM next time you want to go to Range 1. My wife isn't a big fan of sitting in the truck and watching me shoot!

Also, there is a post requirement to have all privately owned weapons registered on post prior to bringing them to the range.

I'm not really worried. We'll PCS before the MPs come to take my guns. ;-)

Used to go before the registration. The one thing you can count on is that red flag is like a beacon. Open the range and every tom/dick and harry will show up.

Then you tell them it is time to close and they get pissy about it. Just some thoughts from one that has worked there for 20+ years. [Flower] The public range is suppose to open next month I believe as well.

Registering your weapons killed it for me.

If you hear more, keep us in the loop. I have a few coworkers who are looking forward to checking it out.

If the public range is going to open in Oct, they have a LOT of work to do!

I thought this was supposed to open this past Spring!
Real nice that it will open during the coldest part of the year!!!!!
Saw them moving earth last week.
Curious to how this will work and the hours.
Nice that it will be 5 minutes from the house but I hope it is not full of BS rules.
We will see.

Me as well. I belong to Frontier but it is 20 min away.

I just read the post paper like others do. Was on the front page last week. Just remember us old guys that used to shoot on post all the time and had to go to private ranges have CRS= "Can't remember shit"

Just curious but why all the dislike of firearms registration? It sounds a little bit like Dale Gribble to me. :)

Because the government does not need yet another way of tracking who owns what, where they live, storage location of said firearm, etc. What happens when you FTF sell something, and Carson MP's still have it on file? It becomes a headache if there are ever questions and opens up too much scrutiny and documented evidence of ownership. It also requires a special trip to Gate 1, a waiting period, and any time you get a new rifle or pistol and want to try it out you can't until it's registered. Not being subject to the CG's rule on this, I too must politely decline any and all registration. Provost Marshall and all his goons can pound sand.

If you are lucky and get a random vehicle inspection and you have un-registered weapons in your vehicle, they just tell you to turn around and leave the post.

Don't ask me how I know...

If one is a Solider this could be used against you. For me I might register one that is all out there but I am a DOD employee.

For the troops it just becomes another tag they can use if you have even the smallest scrape with the law.

Like many I was once a young Solider and the Army loves to use anything they can now-a-days against one. Seen it first hand. We also have many members of the Military here and I would hate to see them get screwed over because of this. Just my two cents. [Flower]

How so? I'm not doubting you; I'm genuinely interested in knowing how this might affect me negatively. For what it's worth, I am a Soldier here on Carson.

SLOW DOWN FOLKS!!!!!!! I have been a active duty Soldier for 17 yrs and have spent the last 10+ yrs at carson give or take a year here and there. The firearms I use on a reular basis ie.. hunting, target are registerd with the PMO and I live in Pueblo. I have went thru the gate one Monday morning for PT with unregistered gun that was left after a sunday winter rabbitt hunt "sigle shot .410" and was asked to turn around. As for the "Use against you thing" I dont think so!!

The new range outside the gate will not open untill SPRING 2013 if lucky

Word on the street is the Public Range Days at Range 1 is a Red Cycle Tasking now.

You must not have been in long then. The psychopaths that run soldiers lives will use any leverage then can against soldiers, even for completely unrelated infractions.

That, and it's none of their fucking business. I have not used nor will I ever use Range 1 or the public range. Plenty of other spots to shoot that are low cost or free.

I think I was correct in my original assessment.

For the benefit of an old retired USAF SNCO, WTF is a "Red Cycle Tasking"?

A unit on red cycle gets tasked to run it.

When you have leadership fighting to get obviously broken soldiers to deploy for "numbers" then half of another company goes home for no real reason, yeah something is wrong upstairs in the heads of that leadership.

After E-7 there needs to be a mandated semi-annual psychological fitness exam.

even for completely unrelated infractions. Thank you Jordan.

That is the rub these days. If you step out of line or have any issue at all it always comes back to "But he has guns"

For the younger soldiers that are married heaven help you if your wife ever get's pissed at you. There is more at play but it is much safer if one applies the "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy to firearms ownership.

I know some of the more senior Military membership may be along to slap my hand but it is what it is. [Flower]
