View Full Version : Sterling 9mm
Anyone own one shoot one etc? Kinda want a cheap 9mm carbine. Any info would be great
I shot one once....the sights are worthless and the one that I shot didn't run (it coulda been a bad mag). It had a crappy trigger. It was about what you'd expect from a gun that cost less than $50 to build. That said...I loved the M3 that I shot.
I had a Kel-Tec...wouldn't recommend it. But I would recommend a High-Point. Mine was in .40 and it shot surprisingly accurately (about a baseball sized group, w/iron sights, out of a 10 round mag at 50 yards). I sold it because I needed mags bigger than 10 rounds.
I now shoot a 9mm AR and it is a good choice, but not what I'd call as cheap.

You may also consider a suomi. It's about the same price point. I have never shot a suomi or a sterling but I like the idea of a 9mm carbine.
I shot my buddies Kel-tec and hi-point. They were both fun with bowling pins.

Buy yourself a Uzi carbine. I got one in September and its a blast to shoot. It was more then a Sterling but cheaper than a AR in 9mm.
I want one in 7.62x25 really bad.

I've built 2 suomis. Fun to shoot, but they are heavy especially with the 72 round drums.

I have owned both. The suomi is too heavy and the trigger pull is obnoxiously heavy. The sterling is light weight and with the folding stock quite compact. I occasionally had feeding problems but mine was pretty accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. You could get two for the price of an uzi.

I have the beretta CX4. Fun, fairly accurate, but a terrible trigger design and therefore a terrible trigger. Not cheap either at $700+
I have a Sterling Type 2, semi auto carbine in 9mm. The front adjustable sight was frozen. I filed down the front sight for a 50 yard zero with the large non-adjustable rear peep. I don't use the small rear peep. It shoots right on for a left to right zero. It was one of the most expensive and dependable machine guns ever made. The butt stock is a bit to short. The 32 round mags are very reliable.
Do not use Sten magazines in your Stirling, cuz there is a chance of premature detonation. You can still shoot the Stirling carbine with the stock folded...with the Keltech, you cannot.
It fits in a large daypack very well ---- with the stock folded. It's a fun gun to shoot...and it runs very fast. Don't forget to glue or Loc-Tite the two tiny stock pins, near the receiver. The wielded magazine chute is the Stirling's weakest point, when holding the magazine while firing.
I highly recommend the Stirling semi-auto...which you can buy at J&G Sales in Arizona.
