Detail cleaning my AR, dropped the firing pon retainer. Can i just cut down a cotter pin to fit or am i screwed?

Yes, you could theoretically cut down a cotter pin, but I would be concerned about the loop being too big to clear the receiver during the firing sequence. The other problem could come in if the pit part is too thin and it starts to move around too much during firing or even fail during firing. If it doesn't fit well enough, it's going to be really really bad to fix. I would just swing by Bowers and pick a few up.

Looks like your right SA. Looks like i have a reason to go to bowers now! It just falls out( the cotter pin i tried to cut).
