So... I just got the insurance bill for my new car... My last car cost me $85 a month... Got a new car, which is great. I expected to pay more... But $498 a month?!?!!? FUCK THAT! [Rant1][Bang]

The last ticket I had was in 2007, same for an accident.

I haven't been pulled over for anything in 3 years.

American Family has been charging me a stupid amount of money, including the $85, for piss poor insurance!

Que Allstate commercial on TV.... Love these things... They make me laugh. A good TV commercial goes a long way with me. Why do I use E*Trade? The E*Trade baby.

Anyway, got a quote from Allstate. For under $200 a month I get a deductible that's half what it was before, 3 forgiven accidents, a safe driver check every 6 months, AND! My deductible goes down $100 every month. In 5 months, I'll have a $0 deductible.

So. FUCK YOU AMERICAN FAMILY!

And thank you, Allstate.

No offense intended to them, but I've never met anyone who's been happy with American Family insurance. [Dunno]

Yeah, I got hit by a guy insured by AmFam last year. They're a bunch of cheap bastards, and their customer service blows.

85.00 per month woud send me into orbit. Had State Farm since 78. They are a little high but when I smoked a deer at 90 I mean 75 MPH last October I had another good experiance. I know my agent and he knows me. Maybe you should lok at self insurance.

Self insured is available for entities that own 25 vehicles or more. It used to be you have to have $100k in CD under personal name. Someone might want look this up..but those era of personal serf insured in the 90s are long gone.

Provide me with the $2.20 MVR fee and I'll gladly show you my driving record... All you gotta do is ask... Unlike the other asshat I'm not going to make another user name and defend myself. [Coffee]

I had Am-Fam for years. No tickets, no accidents then it started to rise. $100 one period so I raised my deductible. Next 6 months another $125.

Dropped them for the cars and then the house policy was a $200 jump then a $300 per year jump.

I still think the biggest scam was going away from no-fault. For some it may have worked out but back then my agent urged me to promote the Tort system saying that my rates would go down.

So after we went to the tort system my rates went down by $100 or so per year. My agent called and explained that I now had no Medical on my car insurance and he urged me to add a $10,000 policy for $300 per year.

Lets recap this. I lose $100,000 of medical and save $100 but you will now sell me $10K of coverage for $300. [Bang]

Fuck Am-Fam.

State Farm here. (since 1988 or so)

Four vehicles, cost approximately: $192 month. (quick figures from my policies)

2007 Jeep, 2007 Honda, 85 GMC Truck, 73 Jeep.

Basic coverage on the two older vehicles, average coverage on the 2007's.

Interesting all the factors involved and what each company will charge you.

When I got my Titan, my premiums shot way up for the first six months, then plunged way back down. I will say that you are paying more for a six month premium with one vehicle then I pay for two 2008 vehicles, a motorcycle, two life insurance policies and a personal articles policy combined.

Edit: For a year of coverage.

8/12-2/13 is a 6 month policy.
Who has 6 month policies? He's paying more for 2- 6 month policies than i pay for EVERYTHING Homes, vehicles everything.
Must be under 25.........30?

Correct me if im wrong but that looks like $419 for 6 months of coverage which would be $70 a month

When I buy new vehicles my Geico policy goes down. New car discount!

I dropped my car insurance with AmFam.
They were doing opposite of other insurance carriers.
Longer I was with them, higher they charge (w/o ticket nor accident).

I am FAIRLY happy with progressive.

We have Esurance (Allstate): 2 vehicles, full coverage for both and it's $419 for 6 months. $69.83 a month.

We had a minor incident (wife backed into a tree - f-ed up the bumper and taillight) 2 years ago and no rate increase the next time. And that accident involved a deductible payment for repairs, etc. But last month (Aug) our rate went down $200 per 6 months after XXX fell off of my record.

I priced all of the big names a few moths ago and found Esurance to be the cheapest (even the annoying lizard was more expensive after the 15 wasted minutes). And with the excellent service we got with the tree incident, I saw no reason to change.

I have USAA and have 2 cars (one of the cars is brand new), $100k of renter's insurance, $20k in personal property insurance and it is only $720 for 6 months. When Mrs HoneyBadger got in a wreck last year, USAA gave us $3200 for her totaled car that was appraised at $2400.

If you have the opportunity to bank with USAA, you should check out their insurance offerings as well.

I have USAA for banking but I dropped them for insurance years ago. Back in the day (1995ish) you couldn't beat USAA for insurance. That is no longer the truth. No accidents, no tickets but they are still pretty high as far as rates go.

Think I'm getting hosed or about right? 26, One Speeding ticket a 1.5 yrs ago, 08 VW R32 (Just a v6 2door GTI basically) Naturally aspirated not a turbo or anything. Registers as a passenger vehicle with DOV(Aha). Paying something like $110 a month...

I went from a 30 mile round trip to work to 0 miles. (Across street) Think that would reduce my rate?

JohnnyEgo
10-02-2012, 07:23
The low mileage threshold is usually between 7500 and 10k per year. I drive a company car for work, but still manage to put slightly over 10k on my personal truck every year. If you think you are going to be under the mark, can't hurt to ask your carrier.

I have "shopped" insurance quite a bit over the years to keep those payments down. I found that American Family was always one of the most expensive.

I pay over $230 a month for two shitty cars with full coverage.

No-fault is a shitty deal that is an open invitation for fraud. The rampant fraud was the reason most no-fault states changed.

I have a pretty shitty driving record and American Family was the cheapest I could find after doing some extensive searching. They were much cheaper by a lot as well! Maybe I just lucked out with my local insurance agent but he is always nice and easy to deal with.

State Farm here. Totaled my 2004.5 VW GLI in a snow storm last year, rates did not budge one bit! " no ticket". I have one teen driver in a 92 VW, liability only. Wife in an 06 Expedition, full coverage, and me with liability only on a bad ass 97 Jetta...$145 a month.
