So, last night was taking the boy scouts that I taught in class to the range. (American legion trap range in Boulder, which they did FOR FREE, which is very cool)

So, I brought pretty much all my shotguns, some of which are "field" oriented and some of which are pretty tactical. The old guys at the range are like 'you can't hit anything with that"
Give it to me, Pull, BOOM goes the clay. Ain't the gun old timer.

Anyway, brought the wife and we worked with their stances and such. Lots of them had horrible stances, but we fixed it over time. One guy had my 870 tactical, adjustable stock, etc and he couldn't hit a barn. I mean, good form, right there and over the top every time. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore and got my Beretta out of the truck. I handed it to him and said "3000 dollar shotgun, don't nick, scratch it or anything"
First shot, boom, blows the clay right up. He shot real well after that.

Anyway, another guy, had decent form, struggling but just missing. I worked with him for a long time, finally put the wife on him, nothing, just not pretty, over the top and left every time (he was shooting lefty)

Finally, i just watch him for like 3 shots and I realize what he's doing.
He's literally crawling over the gun trying to get his right eye over the barrel. (think about that for a minute)
I say "you're right eye dominant"
no, no i'm not
Uh huh
well, whatever, close your right eye, shoot only one eye open
BOOM, goes teh clay
Problem solved and NO ONE (not even the old timers) could figure it out.

I have a lot of gun cleaning to do.
But, screw that, it's been a good week, we're going to Colo Clays tomorrow, gotta burn off my credit there.

You rock - thanks.
I'm the Cub Master for my kids pack and I sure like hearing other people working with the kids. Seems to me that the more kids know, the less likely they are to grow up dead or liberal.

It's nice to read about people taking the time to teach kids.
They ARE our future.

Some good diagnosing there.

I was the shooting sports chairman for Pikes Peak Council for several years. Boys love shotguns. Problem is I could never get enough adults to mentor them. I'd offer the NRA Shotgun Instructor course and could never get anyone to sign up for it. Lots for rifle, none for shotgun. I wish I could change that.
