i worked all throughout college. its not that hard. and college kids can get cheap catastrophic coverage, which the vast majority never touch anyway. i think my bro has insurance for catastrophic events for like $1000 a year. we pays for small things out of pocket.

There were a lot more points. I could have got a lot more out there but the 30 seconds between posts kinda messes things up. lots of things are said, obama covers 5 different topics in a 1 minute span, then goes over his allotted time by another 30 seconds.

the point he is missing 2 fold. the spend spend spend can not happen. again, CAN NOT happen. major cuts need to happen.
Taxes can not go up on higher income either. they are the business owners. they are the bankers (as much as we hate that fact), they are the people that lend the money, buy and sell major portions of stocks etc. Any hole in their pocket will be backfilled by increasing costs to consumers, which will in turn again kill the middle class.

This is one of the greatest contributors to self perpetuating government. Ad the gov workers to the entitled and we have a big disadvantage. Gov workers also contribute more heavily to the dem coffers. It's self preservation. Started when the dems legislated in collective bargaining for public sector employees.

I noticed that Mitt watched the President--while talking and while listening. The president looked at the floor and the audience alot, he did little to engage with Mitt. Not sure what that means but just something I noticed.

From what little I saw or heard, I have to agree, although 430 is a pretty small sample size. I googled "presidential debate effects on elections", and the general consensus is that they rarely do. The frontrunners tend to be more cautious while the challenger takes the opportunity to make a visible impression.

A balanced budget can be done, has been done, its just the current admin doesnt give a rats ass about balancing anything, because theys teh guberment and can do as they damn well please as long as they continue to dole out to the "needy".
Deficit reduction is going to be the real issue, and thats a lot harder to accomplish. It can be done, and done in such a way that the country doesnt implode, but the welfare state will end, and a lot of government backed programs will end, and unemployment for many would end, none of which IMHO is not a bad thing. The current president doesnt have the balls to do it, but I think Mittens does. He is a business man who will take a look at a program like welfare and cut the shit out of it until its lean and mean and might actually work, or dropped altogether. Still, it will take a LOT to get the deficit reduced, probably 10-12 years of solid policy and hard damned work by the 20% of this country that does not work today, but it is possible.
Now likely? I dont know. A President is a leader, but Congress still has to be on board and that will be an issue. My guess is Mittens will get about 1/2 of what he wants accomplished done, and we can only pray that the following President continues the work, because even if somehow Mittens gets elected for two terms, and the country is on its way to a decent recovery, it will take a Bill Clinton or BHO type a mere single term to undo most of it.
For those who doubt that recovery can happen- Reagan! Reagan came in after Carter completely fucked this entire country. Farms were being sold on a daily basis, farms that had been in families for generations, farmers who were told BY THE PRESIDENT to grow, take out loans, buy equipment and work hard, we were going to sell the produce to Russia, China, etc. and the farmers would make out OK. But then the lying ass sonofabitch boycotted the export of American food- meaning that all that food, all those crops, wasted. Farmers bankrupt on a scale that has never been seen before and hopefully will never be seen again. There were dozens of ribbons in the county square, one for each farm the banks foreclosed on. The American Farmer nearly disappeared, and it affected the entire economy.
Reagan came in and cleaned that shit up, and we recovered. Get the right man in there and shit will happen, Mittens is looking more and more like the man for the job. Yeah, I get that hes not as conservative as I am, but he can get the damned job done, and thats what we are hiring the guy for.

The average American has a very short memory.
Like it was Clinton that started the downward spiral of the housing market and BHO always insists it was Bush policies.
But one thing that does bug me a touch: I get the concept of neither candidate meeting all of our ideals.
But I think we need to consider the survival of a nation first and foremost.
That is a little more important this time around than "ideals".
Let's get the country at least diverted from the cliff, then worry about the finite details.
Defeat of BHO is job one.

I agree. The sad part is, as mentioned, everybody would have to be on board and they won't be. But I'm with you. Like Wilkow says, he's an "Individual Patriot first, conservative second, Republican third." Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. If that means, as an individual (not in a government-forced collective sense) you have to make a sacrifice or a compromise, so be it. Ideology comes second, and party affiliation at this point is for voting purposes and nothing more.

Granted so do I.. well only on the first, and it comes in the form of VA allocated funds. Now, in your previous post in response to Fmedges: I concur. I would happily allow my VA payment to be cut off if it went to the betterment of our nation- granted I do hope that if cuts like that were to be made, they would not go after our veterans before the welfare and food stamp recipients... but these days sure are scary.

It was an excellent debate to watch. Nice to see Obummer getting schooled. I noticed a couple of people still stating they will be voting for Ron Paul. At this point anyone NOT voting for Romney might as well be voting for Obama. I am a fan of Ron Paul too, but I know to be realistic means Ron Paul has no real shot at winning. Also, since Romney picked up Paul Ryan I have become a much bigger fan. After the debate, I am definitely voting for Romney.
In fact, I heard the debate was so bad for Obuttface that the Kenyans are now saying he was born in America. [ROFL1]
It was almost as though it went like this:
Romney: "States intelligent, factual statement about economy and plans to restore it."
Obama: "Prepared answer doesn't match Romney's statement...gives prepared answer anyway, but preempts it with "Uh?"."
